Disclaimer to anyone not in the fandom worrying about the age gap:
While none of the characters were given any official age by their creator, Tintin is presented as an adult somewhere in his 20s/30s, while the Captain is estimated/guesstimated to be in his 40s/50s. But Tintin looks very young due to his minimalistic design, a conscious choice from his creator to make him be a sort of blank canvas so that anyone could see themselves in him, regardless of age, gender or actual physical appearance. He is intended to look neutral and anonymous enough to be universally relatable, but despite this making him look young due to his "babyface", his lifestyle, skillsets and occupation are all that of an adult.
So don't worry, all character ships are of consenting adults π
...And tbh I'm kind of drawing these two as a cute little personal outlet, cuz tmi I guess but I use it as a way to gush about my boyfriend without having to draw him and I, expressing my appreciation for our relationship while still maintaining privacy. I know, I know, it's kinda cheesy and cringe I guess xD But he looks and behaves so much like Haddock that it made me crush on Haddock as well and thus kickstarting this Tintin hyperfixation xD
But even unrelated to my personal life, Tintin and Haddock are such fun and wholesome characters to draw and explore various scenarios off, their dynamic is so good and they balance each other perfectly, and throughout the series they do give off a strong vibe of being husbands bth. Regardless, the creator (the one and only HergΓ© <3) gave the readers a whole lot of room and creative freedom to interpret these characters any way they wanted, encouraging us to make our own truths about them. It makes for an infinite amount of headcanons and fan fic oportunities across all genres and timelines.
It's just ... fun.
The whole Tintin universe is just a fun, exciting, hilarious and enthralling place to be. And for me it's been a perfect place to escape to for some much needed mental healing.
I hope my shipping of certain characters doesn't offend anyone, and I encourage anyone who hasn't read a Tintin album/book already to do so. Any album would do (maybe aside from the Kongo one as the creator deeply regretted that one and wanted it gone from the album lineup. It was an album based on a script he got from a heavily right winged, fascist abbot who mentored the young, naive HergΓ© in the start of his carreer. When young HergΓ© later realized what he had been taught by the abbot was wrong, he kept making efforts to do better and do his own research instead of just drawing what he was told to without thinking much. In all honesty the history of HergΓ© and the biographies written about him are extremely interesting too so I recommend checking those out too.
But yeah, pick up any Tintin album from your local library or comic book store, go by whichever has the most intriguing cover to you, and give it a go. No need to read them chronologically but you might end up wanting to do that after a few albums regardless, but most fans of the franchise tell of having just randomly come across an album or episode, or they watched the 2011 movie, got intrigued and started seeking out more content, so.. pick a card, any card ;)
And feel free to tell me what you think afterwards! Good or bad, I'd still love to hear your first impression of a Tintin album π
