Hello everyone! So the first thing I want to talk about is the update schedule. This Thursday there will be an update, and then a following update on the 26th. The reason for this is that the 26th is the one year anniversary of the game and so I wanted to make sure that an update would come out on that date, after this the update schedule will go back to being every two weeks, so the update after the 26th will come out on the 9th and I’ll move back into the updates every two week groove again.
Okay, with that out of the way I wanted to go over my general thoughts on the game, its development and its characters. So, first things first, the game. I’m really disappointed in its stunted growth as of recent, by that I mean the work I have put into it. I feel that development has hit a quagmire and has slowed down a lot. I think this is partly due to me being busy and tired, but I also think it's due to the growing complexity of the game and a lack of proper organization on my part. I think the best way to approach this would be to take a few days after the 26th to make some documents detailing how each system works, where it is and its fundamental parts. I think that this would make adding new events, areas and characters a more streamlined process, much like how I reorganized and documented the code for the characters making it far easier to fix them, add stuff onto them or add new characters all together. I have started to do this with other systems besides the characters, for example, May’s room code is fairly compartmentalized, meaning that if/when I add other characters' rooms I already have the code for it. So, I think going forward I really need to go back over the games code, especially older sections that haven't been touched in a long time, and compartmentalize them, document how they work, and reorganize them into a proper working system that I can fix, add onto, and copy with ease.
Not to jump around here, but let's talk about the game itself from a non development view. Overall I think most of the game's writing is good, there are of course a few areas where it's, well, where it's kind of shit (Kira’s event), but just like with that event I did (eventually) sort it out. I think that the game is actually fairly decent, plus I have a lot of help from excellent writers. The only real problem is the sheer amount of bugs there is, I mean good lord it's bad. When I play test the game I encounter a lot of bugs, I have fixed most of them but still there are so many. The worst part of this is that most of the bugs happen for reasons beyond me, like the constant being fed during court, I tried to figure out what was causing that and I think I found it, but I have no idea why the code is not functioning properly. The other thing I found that I hate with a passion is that good damn event where Sieyanka asks for a job, and she keeps popping up, the second thing I hate about that event is how it's displayed, its so ugly to look at, and god forbid I would need to add something to it as its so weirdly set up I have no idea how Dev K even got it working, but it could also be that I have the IQ of a banana and I have made far worse and more annoying events, plus no one has said anything so fixing this is rather low on the list of things to do. The other really annoying thing is how many events I have left unfinished, there are at least two that I know of, and two doesn’t sound like a lot, but it really does affect the flow of things.
Anyways enough with my ranting about events and things I don’t like about the game, let's talk about the characters. First up, a fan favorite from what I can tell, May. To be honest, I had no plans for May, but as the game grows I have found I have started to enjoy her a bit more, and I think she as a character has lots of room to grow, literally and figuratively. While at its core this is a fat fetish game I do want to make compelling characters, that react to your choices, that have feeling, dreams and history’s, I don’t want just some two dementia characters that are just there for the player to fatten up and play with, I want to make characters that player can come to love and enjoy, even if the end goal is the same. I think that I have really come to enjoy May, she started out as just to two dimensional character and has started to grow into more neaused and loveable character, but there is still a long ways off before I would call her character a good, well rounded deep character that you could form an emotional attachment to.
Next up Charles, I noticed no one really picks him, which makes sense as most people want to see or should I say read, fat woman. But I still want to make Charles a good character, for the most part I think I have a good groundwork for him and of course it needs improvements.
Strengmann, he is kind of a blank character right now, his interactions are essentially ‘OH! The queen is fat! Unacceptable! Lose weight, go on a diet.’ Which is kind of bland, you don’t really get to know him beyond that, but I think I can do a lot with his character, even if the majority of people don’t pick him just like with Charles.
Catrain, she again, I feel like has very little character beyond soldier girl, though I will admit I have not written very much for her so I’m not sure how developed she is, as this is a fairly large game at this point and not even I know what's in it. But I think she has a good ground to build upon.
Sarah, there is some unique dialogue depending on your aide you can have with her, but beyond that she doesn't have much character to her and I think she could use some major work, but I also think she has great potential.
Venessa, Yeah I have no idea what is going on with her, Dev K totally rewrote what I had planned for her, so I will probably have to take a look at her character in game a bit more.
There are several other characters in the game, but I either don’t have any ideas for them at the moment, not consider it to be a priority or I just don’t know enough about them to have an opinion or idea of how far along in development they are.
