Early Askcess: Writing, and writing, and writing

A friend bought me a new keyboard for my birthday! It's fun to type on. The first clicky keyboard I've had in over a decade. Cherry MX switches, the whole nine yards. It's very nice. So, when last night I said I needed to fill out the queue on tumblr a little bit, I just... kind of started writing today and didn't stop. A couple hours later, I now have posts queued up to August.

Fortunately, a lot of these aren't too terribly long.

Anonymous asked: Correct me if I'm wrong but as I understand things "two worlds" was a poor communication of the concept that Sonic animal people originate from islands and humans from main lands and Classic Sonic being a different continuity actually meant that there is a different dimension set in the recent past. Both causing massive confusion because of short and undetailed explanations that went through a language barrier.

Anonymous asked: With the commercial and critical success of Sonic Frontiers, are you afraid that the next 3D Sonic games will keep this "Un-Sonic" aspect (art direction, puzzle, etc.)?

bluerthanthoumaybe asked: Hello, I have a strange question to ask

I've been having some existential crisis about my understanding of art, but mostly when it comes to Sonic

I'd like to belive that there's no valid answer or approach to enjoying something that speaks to you and partaking in it no matter what, if folks have a better time relating to the musical side of the series and not many other aspects of it, that's fine, like a different era and aesthetic, no problem and I'll  encourage it in practice. And I find telling someone "you have low/high standards" offensive honestly, it's way too assumptious.

But I'd be lying if the sea of criticism and hot tales online doesn't get to me, making me question maybe I'm wrong, maybe some opinions are more valuable than others. Like I know my preferences, but what if it all comes from ignorance, or me being lenient on others experiences is some sort of creative failure. Maybe the people who want their specific vision of what they love are onto something and are owed that, even tho it would put folks at even more odds.

I find it very disturbing, the idea of an absolute truth and aiming to find it is very comforting but I just hate the idea as well. It would mean disregarding voices that never had the chance to be heard, perspectives and experiences that don't fit within a coherent vision.

Like I'm from a country that was sanctioned to hell and my first language isn't English nor japanese so Sonic was never accessible for me, so I'm inherently biased against someone telling me something I enjoy is not for me.

A bit of followup to that ask: What I'm trying to say is that while I want to support artistic integrity and respect authorial intent, I just the idea of art being treated like a religion and words of artists (and in sonic's case forgotten manuals sometimes lol) to be treated like holy scripture with a specific "vision" or "direction" everyone should follow

Also sorry for lengthy ask

Anonymous asked: For the writing of Sonic Frontiers, Sega gave various instructions to Ian Flynn and he took care of the rest. What do you generally think of his work on the game? Would it be a good idea to give him more freedom to write the next mainline Sonic games?

melcodriggs asked: With Sonic Superstars focusing on multiplayer, how do you think the typical end-of-game Super Sonic boss fight will be handled?

Anonymous asked: It seems SEGA & fan projects realized "Sonic w/ a mallet" is the correct idea for a playable Amy. Blaze, Mighty, etc. succeeded from this formula. It's kind of unreal to watch people get angry at her finally being decent fun instead of a giant drag, nerfed for the sake of ~the lore~. Why is it okay for Tails to spindash, curl up and do damage as a ball with no quills but not okay for the actual hedgehog to do it? Why does Amy have to be the normal girl who can't roll if Cream doesn't?

Generally speaking I only post links because sometimes in the run-up to these getting posted, I might add or change things about the posts. Ergo, visiting the link is the only way to make sure what you're reading is the most up-to-date version of the post without me having to constantly also edit things here on Patreon. Once a post goes live, the link stops working. Publishing dates are also subject to change if I move things around.

You can submit an ask here, though tumblr is picky about it now and forces you to have a login.
