The writing is so good when I first saw this I actually thought the main character was about to die.

That seems like a lazy mistake after we've been shown so many times that alchemy relies on knowing the chemical composition of everything. "Oh, Ed's not gonna die here, I'm not stressed," she says breezily, and the rest of us cackle.
