Go Hugo Go Review - PATRON EXCLUSIVE!

trust me you should've just watched the original Danish dub

John Farraday

Just so you know, this video is currently blocked.

Aww bro, you went with the crappy dub version; the original (I think Danish?) version isn’t exactly the next Lion King but it’s far more tolerable. Especially the bit on the skateboard.

You can be offended and terrified like if you were reading a frank miller comic or watching where the dead go to die

Hugo and Rita are in their mid or late teenage years in this movie. Not too young for the romance. It's made perfectly clear in one of the final scenes of this movie but again in the ORIGINAL. The english dialogue changed everything. Also as they are animal characters and exist as animals in a world with humans in it, I don't see how being different speacies should be an issue. I mean, it's not like human rules/thinking should apply to the animal kingdom.

This wasn't a fair review - as you judged the original movie based on another country's version. You should have at least given the original version the benefit of a doubt in comparison to the english dub if you chose to not view both before forming an opinion. The same goes for the sequel. As in I don't mind that you don't like these movies, just that you didn't acknowledge that these englsh language ones aren't the original versions and that there are numerous big differences. Yes, some of the critisism you made does apply to the original too as they concern the animation and physical scenes and the basic plot. But for this english dub the dialogue has been chnaged so completely that it remarkeably changed who the characters are. And silent moments have been filled with made-up pointless dialogue and annoying squeeking. And the footage has been heavily cut - even entire scenes. And the oroginal musical score has been chanegd into crappy stock music sounding stuff. Point being, a movie's overall worth is not just the plot and basic characters but every aspect counts - and almost every aspect of the original movie got butchered in this english dub version. The original movies have existed with fan-added english subtitles since 2008, so they were available to you. Currently this first one is on Dailymotion.com. Granted, since you didn't like the basic plot, you wouldn't love the original Danish version either - but I'm sure you would have had more positive things to say. :) (Also worth noting is that these english dub versions were never in theatres. These were direct-to-DVD some 12 years after the original, much better versions were released in Scandinavian theatres.)

Derek Savage. LOL.

Matthew James Schultz

I don't see any reason why Rita is a fox, she should be a squirrel.

StageLined

Thisted Was one of my favourites as a kid! Rita Was just The shit! BD

Julie Nautrup

I'm going to second this. Rita was the most redeemable aspect of this movie. She melded street crassness with playful charm, which equaled something pleasantly eccentric. Too bad the script never realizes how to tap any of it's own potential.

Fennec

As bad as it is I like Rita though

Nekonomicon

I was hoping you reviewed the original cut of the film.

Mohamed Yahya

Okay, I gotta admit I absolutely cackled at that bit with Derek Savage. Absolutely awesome sir, rock on!

Maklarr4000

Wow, I did not know this movie even existed. Oh man, has there been a movie more perfectly crafted for Bobsheaux's wit? Good one sir!

Maklarr4000

To me, it's kinda like a ripoff to The Fox and the Hound, if you ask me! :)

Luke Jeffers

(14:23 - 14:40) Hypnotizing mice so they kill themselves in one of the most painful ways possible... even if it didn't really happen, that's a pretty grim idea. Thanks Hugo!

Ben Molulon

I like the foreign dub mostly because I can't understand it ;)

Justin Haywood

No that was the Nostalgia Critic.

Raven Fox

Oh man, that poster part had me rolling! xD And if you want to know what animal Hugo is, you are out of luck because they never say anything...where he came from, why he's the last of his kind, no lore or anything. He is just a "rare animal" that everyone wants and that's it. And as for why Rita didn't go to the place with the better food is because it was probably too dangerous to do so because of humans and cats, and she only went there because Hugo didn't want any of the dumpster food. And she scolds him not because "He ruined her favorite restaurant" but because he put her in a dangerous situation because the dumpster food wasn't good enough for him ( she went along with it though so yeah..) stuffed his face while acting like Rita ate too, and laughed about it even though they could have been hurt by the cats, and THEN having to be PRESSURED into apologizing. (It's worth noting that the english version cut out some parts of this scene as well as many other scenes) She still forgives him way too easily for it though to the point the scene might as well not have been there and she does that A LOT throughout the movies, so I agree with that. Maybe I am just bias because I don't like Hugo and I don't think Rita should be risking life and limb for him all the time if he isn't gonna bother learning his lesson (which he never does). Anyway, great review and thanks for the reminder how this movie liked to pad itself out by Hugo whining. GOD i forgot how annoying that was. xD

And the guy that said "man" was timber Humphrey from YouTube right?

Shane Lim

Or maybe even "alvin and the chipmunk" franchise ? The most recent alvin and chipmunk has a bad review on IMDb so maybe good video material?

Shane Lim

Do you do movie reviews of the more recent ones such as "the good dinosaur" or "zootopia" after its release?
