The Gay Stereotypes Chart

Here you can read the cards separately.
There are just three very insidious tropes for representing non-straight people in mainstream culture:
- The Victim. The wounded survivor to a past, or present, of abuse. Usually depicted as fragile and submissive, needing for moral help. Being bullied, harassed and violated is entangled with being homosexual.
- The Buffoon. The comic relief, the best friend forever, the sycophant of the straight characters. No sentimental life for him, nor dreams and goals, just the joy of being a joke on two legs.
- The Puppeteer. Homosexuality is a perversion, homosexuals have to be mean and abusive, gaining their power through deception, so the straight hero can defeat them through honesty and real strength.
And if you ask how sex is managed in those three tropes, we have even three levels!
- Abuse, because homosexuality is a perversion.
- Neutered, because homosexuals having sex could upset the normal people.
- Consensus, because sometimes it can happen.
You can build an RPG character chart with. I did it. Tell me if there isnβt a gay character in the mainstream culture that doesnβt fit in.
Thatβs why I want to write and draw a different story
