Oni Devourer and Alraune
Added 2022-01-24 19:01:01 +0000 UTCThe Oni Devourer is a lower CR fella based on Shuten Doji, a legendary oni bandit. When he's low on HP, the players can chop his head off, which gets rid of his multiattack but doesn't actually stop him from biting you. Then, if he manages to regenerate, he can pop his head right back on and keep coming at you. For an even lower CR version, you could have one of these that is just a flying head, its body long since destroyed or inaccessible.
The Alraune is a D&D adaptation of a german mythologization of the madrake root. A huge flower with an entrancing scent and a humanish lure, the alraune is just looking for fertilizer and you'll do just fine, blood and the memories of the deceased being its preferred repast. These fellas are surprisingly mobile, able to walk around on stiff vines and branches like a big crazy spider, though they generally prefer to chill in one spot unless someone is actively trying to kill them.
