Owls
Added 2022-02-08 19:00:05 +0000 UTCI love an owl familiar, but it's got a problem; flyby is the perfect familiar ability. Truly, outside of something like a chain pact warlock, nothing can ever compete with flyby. This is great for everyone who wants an owl, but bad for everyone who doesn't, because they have to take a huge mechanical penalty for an RP choice.
It is therefore with a heavy heart that I have nerfed the owl's flyby ability. It was either this, or give every familiar flyby, and this seemed the less disruptive of the two options. On the flipside however, they get a flight-only version of Shadow Stealth, and can blind with their claws. Also good news for owl lovers; we've got a Huge-Size owl at a polymorphable/wildshapeable CR that the whole party can ride.
