Atavists and Blood Hunters

You should get a pretty good sense from these why people whinge about the Blood Hunter's power level and complexity, but there's some genuinely solid depth of flavor there.
As regards the Atavist, I've seen a couple of them played at my tables and I've never seen players so delighted with their class mechanics. Just don't allow Polyphemus Might in combination with Serrated Strikes; the rerolls and exploding dice in combination will grind the game to a halt.

The classes they're meant to reflect are designed in the context of 2014 D&D, so I keep that noted to leave space for if the class gets reworked for 2024. With the exception of the Blood Hunter, though, I think all the ones I've done hold up well in 2024.
