2025-04-11 21:18:09 +0000 UTCHey, it's my favorite terrible disaster movie! My earth science teacher in high school played this movie for the class. Not because it's a good movie, but because it's so scientifically inaccurate that it's actually good learning material. Every 10 minutes or so, he'd stop the movie and say "let me tell you why THAT is the dumbest thing you'll see today". It was a fun class.

2025-04-11 20:01:20 +0000 UTCI feel like this movie's biggest impact was codifying the cliche of the "littlest cancer patient," a character who exists to be put in danger for cheap suspense even though it's obvious the whole time there's no way in hell the story would actually kill them off. The trope had existed long before, of course, but that line some some review I forget the source of "Yeah right, like you'd really kill the littlest cancer patient" really seemed to resonate with people.
