I suppose it depends on the severity of any lasting mental effects. I imagine some people wander around for a week or so desperately trying to convince their friends and families that they are who they say they are, and eventually adapting to their new life. While others fall into a deep delusion brought on by their transformation and try to play out the role they think they hold (Like that one flight attendant hydra).
