HOLY...2015 MAMA [Boys In Battle] BTS vs BlockB REACTION

Comments

BTS ATE AND LEFT NO CRUMBS!! That 2014 MAMA performance was legendary for so many reasons, they devoured! The rap?? the dance?? the singing?? the Jihope dance battle?? Jimin ripping his shirt off??! ICONIC. 🫠 But the context behind it makes it even more powerful. Sorry it's going to be a long comment but trust me, It's worth it. CONTEXT: BTS was still rookies back then, and they were getting a lot mistreatment and MAMA specifically downplayed them. For example, BTS did not perform at MAMA 2013 bc they were not even invited to the event that year, though they were nominated for awards as a debut group. Namjoon mentioned that MAMA was the only award show BTS was excluded from in their debut year. And besides that, in MAMA 2014 they didn't let them perform it all in the main stage completely ignoring the fact they did so good that year with Skool Luv Affair. In fact, they just let them perform Boy In Luv in the red carpet.... so sad! Around the period of this award was really hard for BTS bc after the release of Dark&Wild BTS was in their "flop" era and were receiving hate left and right, especially Namjoon, who was dissed by Bobby in a recent track. To add more context, the irony in Bobby’s diss towards Namjoon back in 2014 is honestly wild when you look at the full picture. Bobby threw shade at RM for being an underground rapper who “sold out” by becoming an idol—implying that Namjoon had lost credibility or authenticity by joining BTS. But here’s the twist... Bobby himself was also an underground rapper who debuted as an idol in iKON under YG Entertainment. So... he basically criticized RM for doing the exact same thing he was doing. And if you look at that diss track (“Come Here”), Bobby didn’t go after big-name rappers. He only targeted younger, less-established idol rappers like Namjoon, people who were still building their careers. That’s where fans called him out for being a coward. Instead of challenging someone on his level or higher, he picked targets who were easier to provoke and less likely to retaliate publicly. Namjoon, though, didn’t take the bait in interviews or online. He responded through art, rewriting his verse for the MAMA 2014 performance and delivering it with fire. No names, no drama, just bars. And that’s what made it hit even harder. Instead of clapping back online, RM rewrote his rap lyrics for this exact stage while he was in the airplane .(Peachy you probably read about this in the first chapters of the "Behind The Story" book but it's been a while). - Bobby’s Diss Verse: “Call me a monster, I didn’t give that name to myself. I’m Won Bin in front of bulletproof glass when it comes to skills and looks.” The references to “monster” and “bulletproof glass” were seen as jabs at Namjoon’s stage name at the time (Rap Monster) and BTS’s Korean name “Bangtan Sonyeondan” (Bulletproof Boy Scouts)+ he also was coming after his looks implying Namjoon is ugly (Bobby later explained in interviews that it wasn’t personal but Armys still think that was so ridiculous and coward). - Part of RM’s Response at MAMA 2014: “Hold up your shield and try to imitate my rap, you tone-deaf rapper.” This line was interpreted as a direct clapback, referencing BTS’s “bulletproof” identity and mocking the idea that others could copy his style. It was bold, confident, and his delivered was so good. The book says “RM rewrote his rap lyrics for the MAMA stage. He didn’t name names, but the message was clear. It was a response, a declaration, and a warning.” This MAMA performance was a turning point and a statement 🔥. It was BTS' chance to survive and a moment that made people start looking at BTS differently. It showed that BTS wasn’t just another idol group. They had grit, talent, and something to prove. I have so much respect for BTS and I'm so proud 😭 They were really up against Block B (a group that was doing well and from a recognizable label) and the pressure was intense. But BTS didn’t just hold their own, they OWNED that stage. 🔥💜

Purple Chamchi

Heard namjoon was mostly freestyle and that he was sending shots at Bobby a member of the group icon. Early BTS did not come to play said put respect on their name
