She’s realizing (and accepting) that she likes shoulder draping situations with big strong Joes and that it’s ok. Her washing machine time may be indirectly helping her accept her likes and wants, since no plagues of locusts have appeared despite various promises about what would happen if she let her “sinful” desires happen.

Her maybe-you-have-autism referral seemed to have made her overcorrect and start assuming she was bad at people and didn't know how to understand others, when in fact she has lots of practice and is doing pretty well at it most of the time. Either she's carried away and falling back on old habits, or she's genuinely gotten more comfortable with herself. I hope it's at least partially the latter.
