They lightly explained that back on Sabaody; but even if Kuma is just deflecting something; he can't just hit it with his paws and send it wherever; he needs to have a target in mind to use his ability. In other words, even if the locations the Straw Hats are on don't make sense, Kuma still had to specifically be targeting that island to send them there, otherwise they wouldn't have moved.
