3 Body Problem 1x01 full-length reaction

Watched on: Netflix (UK)

For copyright reasons, full-length reactions don't include the show or movie footage, so you'll need your own copy to watch along with me. Ideally, you'll need two screens or two browser windows. One for the reaction, and the other for the show you're watching. Using your phone is also viable to watch one of them.

As many different streaming services in different countries often play trailers or recaps before the show starts, the easiest way I've found to sync up footage is to find the first RECOGNISABLE frame (ie. not a black screen) of the episode. Don't worry, I'll show you the frame to look for at the beginning of each full-length reaction!

This will be:

✨The first frame of the opening credits.✨

OR

✨The first frame of the cold open.✨

Once you've found the approximate frame on your copy, pause it. Next, play the reaction and you'll see a countdown timer at the end of the intro and when the show is about to start. Press "play" on your copy when the timer reaches 0:00.

A small (but muted) portion of the show will stay on the screen to allow you to properly sync up your copy if you need to adjust it. The easiest way to eliminate any small discrepancies between the two is to rapidly pause and unpause the video that's ahead until both are running simultaneously.

Note: Some of my older shows might have the first frame after the opening credits.

What a great first episode! I'll mention a few science things that are not related to the story... These are some of the things people interested in science would know about. Note that none of these are intended to explain the show... * Cosmology - the study of the universe, like its origin - for example the big bang theory * The speed of light - the stars that we see at night, the light coming from them travels to us at the speed of light which is very fast. Though very fast it still takes thousands of years for some of those stars to reach us. In our galaxy the stars we see may take 10,000 years for the light to reach us and the galaxy is actually 10x larger than that. We need special telescopes to see much farther * Particle colliders - at different locations, they collide particles to see what comes out - to discover things much smaller than atoms, protons, electrons * The Standard Model of physics - is the theory that explains all of the fundamental "building blocks" of matter, etc - it is the most successful theory of science... after quantum physics * The simulation hypothesis - this is a nice hot tub topic... or so I hear. I don't know who gets into hot tubs but if they're science types they might talk about this - it's the theory that the world is actually a simulation, like in a computer game. For example I assume it means everything we see are not there, they are simulated - including our bodies and our minds * The Twilight Zone - it is a deep layer of the ocean but... more popularly it's known as a sci-fi/fantasy/horror TV series (1959) where they have at least one episode where they allude to the possibility that the world is a simulation, though how many remembers the episode is anyone's guess * Space Elevator - concept that it may be possible to get to space using an elevator instead of a rocket * Sky Hook - the fun idea that a "hook" in orbit could be rotating and at its low point it could reach low to the Earth where someone could hop on it to get to space, instead of using a rocket. Also known as a rotovator * Brain in a vat - the concept where a brain could be in a jar and all of the sense inputs like sight, sound, feel etc are just fed into it, meaning there are no actual eyes, just the data that eyes would provide the brain... in fact there are no other body parts other than the brain in the vat... but the brain doesn't know it * Rick & Morty - an animated comedy show where the main character struggles with the philosophical nature regarding existence in an infinite multi-verse, for example where he has infinite daughters - lots of laughs * I think therefore I am - means that the act of thinking proves one's existence * Do androids dream of electric sheep? - questions the nature of humanity when an artificial being could and would and may dream... and may have desires and empathy * VR and AR - VR is Virtual Reality like a headset that will show you a game world, AR is Augmented Reality where you put the helmet on and you can still see the world but on top of it, maybe in overlay you can see things and maybe objects - could be Pokemon that are not really there * Boltzmann brain - a cosmological concept where a brain randomly spontaneously comes into existence, yes it's not impossible, in a large enough universe it would be statistically probable * The Matrix - some ask "what is it?" None of these are intended to explain anything... 🙂
