Don't Do School, Stay In Milk, Drink Your Drugs

alright! as usual it felt nice great just taking my time with solo pieces, yada yada x) I tried revisiting the experiment that i've mentioned from the previous page i've worked on where i duplicated the base layer in order to mix the actual colors of the shading so it would blend more consistently and avoid less banding. This time, there was indeed a very noticeable difference when it came to shading very dark colors such as Palette's skin here. Colors within that realm when it comes to shading has such a strong banding that i have to be very meticulous when i choose my values, but with the new duplicate mixing method that i've tried here, it wasn't even a problem at all! however, new techniques comes new weaknesses here. The main issue i have now is that i cannot adjust the shade AND the lighting without affecting the base color itself.

usually i would use the hue slider to change that with ease but now i have to just manually shift the tone by painting it over again. also i cannot "unify" the shading or lighting in this either for the same problem. what i mean by this is sometimes i would use a clipped layer above the shade layer in order to apply some sort of ambience in the color to match the environment but now i cannot do that unless i affect the entire base color. Soo now begs the question if i should stick to this new technique and just shift things manually, or figure out a new method to affect the shading and lighting (most likely with another software or with a SAI feature that i have yet to discover), or just stick to my old method since the results are very minute in sacrifice of 2 eases of process. Anywho, i'll be figuring this out as i make more pieces but as of now, hope you guys enjoy!
