Pizza - 06 - HD

GASP

EDIT - Forgotten eyelash lines struck again...!

Commentary

Previously, in an earlier commentary:

"...The cohesiveness of the metaphor fluctuating depending on what you replace pizza with and the particular moment we're at."

This is one moment in particular where I favored silliness over general cohesiveness.

I'm not saying there's no cohesiveness. Plenty of people have complained about Twilight without ever actually reading / seeing it, and there are other ways to interpret it (such as someone simply not having a firm grasp on what they're complaining about).

I'm just saying that, if you're not taking "pizza" literally, this moment may or may not fit into your narrative depending on what "pizza" has become in your mind.

But not all. Just raise the issue, and any sane pizza pusher (which, admittedly, rules out most of them) would quickly switch to an acceptable variant if this is the issue. While I grant you that pretty much everybody who would be pushing pizza would be pushing pizza with melted cheese, there are multiple options for no cheese pizza. While the default tomato sauce doesn't handle this well for most toppings, stickier alternatives such as barbecue sauce, hummus (technically not stickier, but if you push the toppings into the hummus, it has better hold), honey, molasses, and I'm sure many others I haven't tried can work quite well. While they aren't pizza per se, calzones do not, as far as I am aware, have any particular no cheese penalty. There are also sticky toppings, that could probably work with nigh any pizza sauce. Alternatively, if the 'greasy' complaint that Kitty herself mentioned fairly early on is the chief complaint, vegan and other low-fat toppings aren't greasy. There are some cheeses which are less greasy than others. There are gluten free pizza dough options and unleavened pizza dough options (I've not seen gluten free unleavened pizza dough, but I don't know why it wouldn't be possible.) With the great variety of different pizzas that could be had under the overall umbrella of "meal served on an edible bread base, baked together" that is pizza, about the only objection that I can think of that would be insurmountable would be someone hating bread. Hating bread is just sad, IMHO. Bread is wonderful. Also, the paleo diet really doesn't understand what foods were available in paleolithic times. I mean, if grain wasn't available before that, then why was it one of the first things that people started growing at the dawn of agriculture? Corn, as we know it today, certainly wasn't available, as it's the result of centuries of controlled breeding. But wheat and barley cultivation began at the dawn of agriculture.

Maybe Kitty doesn't like melted cheese. That rules out most pizza.

Cocaine! Hmmm, can I complain about coke if I've never had it...

ZekeStaright

Ah, see, that's where you're wrong. I also don't like the smell of coffee, and assumed I wouldn't like the taste, based on that. But then, as an adult, I finally tried coffee for the first time and it was... OK. Tolerable. I'll drink it if I need a caffeine boost and diet coke isn't available.

Script adapted from "Green Eggs and Ham" by Ashley... :)

I know what you mean, but sometimes the opposite is true. There are foods I really like the smell of that I don't like to eat, and there are things that don't appeal based on smell, but wound up tasting okay or pretty good.

Dan Shive

Don’t actually need to try something to know you won’t like it. I can’t stand coffee because the smell bothers me.

I'm hoping we get to see more of non-sketch Kitty sometime soon.

Rhubarb is delicious, no doubt there. Still doesn't hold a candle to a well made apple pie. :)

Joshua Brumley

You heretic ! Rhubarb pie is the only true and hallowed pie. 🍕(I didn't find the pie one and this is topical so...) But more seriously, this reminds me of the debate over single-payer/"socialist" health system: most people that had the occasion to stay in an European country where this is the norm are much more enthusiastic about it, most opponents are either politicians or people that have never tried it.

Chaddaï Fouché

It's common enough that many of those that are strongly against something, don't actually have any basis for being against it, like in this case, how can you be so sure you don't like pizza if you haven't actually tried it. For a long time I refused to try my grandmother's rhubarb pie, I always knew she was a great baker but rhubarb didn't appeal to me, I dunno if it was because I had tried it when I was really young, didn't like it but forgot about it, but one day I was like "alright maybe my tastes have changed" and tried some, sure enough, it was too tart for my liking, but at least I had the attempt to back up my opinion.

Scotty

Kitty is playing a *moron*.
