Next Story Comic Monday, EGSNP Tuesday
Added 2021-08-04 06:00:53 +0000 UTCNOTE: This will NOT affect the return of Sunday Milestone images.
First off, I'm okay. Mostly.
The issue is I haven't been okay, and I haven't been taking care of myself. My sleep schedule is a disaster, I'm regularly going to bed really late, waking up late, and being drowsy throughout the day. My focus is really bad, and I worry I'm going to get myself sick again at this rate.
I was actually planning to not postpone anything and intentionally not get enough sleep on Friday in attempt to fix this, and... Really? That's my solution? Doing something I know isn't good, and assuming it will fix my sleep schedule?
I hate to do this, which is basically why I'm so bad at self care. Some part of me is screaming to just stay up and finish the comic, and that I've seen the sun rise while doing that before.
That is a hard no. The sun doesn't rise to tell you your day is over.
Well, I mean, it might if you're regularly a night owl and that works for you, but it's terrible for me.
A lot for the next story comic is done. I know what the next EGSNP is going to be. I'm going to allow myself to leisurely finish them and fix my sleep schedule. From there, I'm going to sort out how to keep it that way.
I might have trouble with this, so if I fall back into bad habits, please yell at me.

But seriously, you might want to check with your doctor about sleep meds. Sleeping pills gave me a semi predictable sleep schedule for the first time in my life!

2021-08-05 01:35:51 +0000 UTCIt did teach me better saving habits =P I found it too easy to ignore a bedtime alarm which is why I did the full shutdown

2021-08-04 22:53:40 +0000 UTCRest up! We understand you need to take a breather to catch up. And don't be too hard on yourself!

2021-08-04 20:46:52 +0000 UTCThat would kill my unsaved work so often. XD But I like the general idea of using an automated task to break one's focus, e.g. a message, a sound or some flickering lights.

2021-08-04 20:43:10 +0000 UTCYou need a Hyperbolic Time Chamber or something to get some rest. Btw: I'd like to hear Ted's video game opinion on stuff similar to that, regardless of whether it's being used to power yourself up or to torment people with years of imprisonment or if the trope is used the other way round, i.e. 1 day in the chamber means 1 year passes outside or something. No pressure to actually do it, I just wanted to toss an idea at you about something that's a rare but imho fascinating topic in video games, in case you want to do more video game opinions, but run out of ideas. I love the way Library of Ruina used that trope (but I won't spoil what they did).

2021-08-04 20:40:44 +0000 UTCThe way i see it, staying up late to be productive is essentially borrowing productivity from yourself tomorrow. This can be fine if you need to get something done on a deadline and can rest afterward. But if it's part of your daily routine, you will enter a cycle of never having enough productivity without staying up late and robbing the next tomorrow of your energy. It's best to break that cycle and keep a consistent sleep schedule. A healthy you does better work in a normal day than an unhealthy you does in an extended day.

2021-08-04 11:51:35 +0000 UTCTake your time. If you are having trouble getting off the computer, you can set an automated task to shut down at a certain time. It's what set me on the path to a good sleep schedule.

2021-08-04 10:31:23 +0000 UTCYour health has to come first. Without a healthy Dan there is no comic at all, and we has a sad. So take the time you need. Sleep is important.

2021-08-04 07:18:03 +0000 UTCIt sounds like this is one of the cases where a part of the problem is not letting the problem show as externally-visible symptoms, so there's the irony that the appearance of symptoms means that the situation is getting better. So, given that: I'm glad to see the skipped comics. Thank you for taking care of yourself. As it happens, I decided last night to take the rest of this week off of work, for rather similar reasons.

2021-08-04 06:37:17 +0000 UTCI'm glad for this delay, because it will hopefully lead to better health and a better long run in general. Rest well!

2021-08-04 06:29:43 +0000 UTCAs someone who has had to switch from day shift to night shift weekly, your sleep schedule is a beast to get under your control. You do whatever you need to do for your health.
