To be fair, there's a Paladin in the party: stealth was never really an option :)

2023-02-24 10:49:40 +0000 UTCI'm reminded of the first AD&D rev 2 game I played in which one of the other players was playing an Assassin. His character carefully got into position, successfully making half a dozen stealth roles to do that. One more and he could roll for his first backstab. I don't even remember what happened in the rest of the action, but something prompted the player to yell, "No, they can't *do* that!" more or less right in the DM's ear. Now, different DMs are different, but most will take offense to you causing them pain, and this one wasn't an exception, so he ruled that the player's character yelled out an equivalent statement. Suddenly, everything we were fighting turned. Too bad none of the rest of us knew how to do a proper backstab because we got lots of chances.
