Juba: "And now we are free. I will see you again... but not yet... Not yet."

Are you not entertained? Are you NOT entertained? Is this not why you are here? ( Maximus then hurls a sword into a balcony, somewhat like how Draba frustratingly threw his trident in Spartacus (1960). )

The frost. (sneering) Sometimes it makes the blade stick. (Understand Praetorian? Well...good for you. But that realization and new knowledge has come too late for you, Praetorian). Bye...

Lush scenery. Terrific acting all around. Historical accuracy is not strictly required since the plot is weaving fact and fiction. For example the battle scene at the beginning shows units and weapons that are pretty convincing. Most movies about ancient and medieval warfare tend to emphasize missile combat: archers, javelin and siege artillery when combat was more about pikes and shields between phalanxes, which is not as edifying to depict. That's why the majority of movies depict Greek mythology, so you can have a character like Achilles fighting solo. "Gladiator" was said to rely too heavily on CGI, that, along with a reputation of bad acting, tends to make actually watching it such an amazing experience. I didn't expect such good performances, especially Joachim Phoenix as Commodus, Derek Jacobi as Gracchus, and Connie Nielsen as Lucilla, traitor that she was. The CGI looks a little experimental, as it was a new technology, but it was thoroughly enjoyable! Watching a movie with someone knowledgeable and interested in history, as the charming and beautiful bunny exemplifies, is a treat! A trio of movies I wish bunny would consider; "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", "The Death of Stalin", and "Das Boot". See you next time!

This will be my first watch along with bunny. I'm super excited. The last time I watched this movie was around 15 years ago. 🥰
