Godfather Owl: Guardian of Batman [93]
Added 2024-11-25 20:10:24 +0000 UTCThe words on the page flickered briefly, then sank into the paper, leaving no trace.
After a short wait, the paper oozed words heâd never written, forming a response.
Yet, something about the phrasing felt⊠off.
âMaster Green, please stop testing me!â
For a moment, Bruce didnât know how to respond.
He recalled Professor Galeâs words about a very interesting soul residing in the diary.
But looking at it now...
What exactly had Professor Gale done to this soul to scare it like this?
Even Bruce couldnât help but feel sorry for the guy.
He wrote in the diary, âIâm not Master Green. I just picked up this diary.â
The diary didnât respond, clearly not buying Bruceâs explanation.
âItâs true; Iâm not lying to you.â
Bruce thought for a moment, trying his best to sound innocent and harmless.
âIs the âMaster Greenâ youâre talking about Professor Gale Green?
âHe is quite harsh; none of the students like him.â
After a pause, the diary finally responded with a slowly emerging line:
âYou told me last time that you were a first-year girl at Hogwarts, pretending to open up to me to trick me into absorbing your soul.
âWhat happened, you think I forgot?
âI wonât make the same mistake twice!â
Thisâ
Although it was just simple text, Bruce could practically feel the deep resentment oozing from it.
This poor dark magic soulâwho knows how many times heâd been catfished by Professor Gale.
Just how badly had he been humiliated to gain this much⊠life experience?
It was hard to imagine.
Bruce found himself at a loss on how to continue the conversation.
At that moment, Kathoom jumped onto the bed, standing next to the diary.
Using telepathy, he whispered to Bruceâ
âChat about the Boy Who Lived; I bet heâd be interested!â
Talking to a diary about Harry?
Bruce couldnât see the connection. Judging by the faded date on the diaryâs cover, this was a journal from fifty years ago.
Fifty years ago⊠Harryâs father wouldnât have even been born yet!
But with no better options, Bruce decided to go along with Kathoomâs advice and give it a shot.
âI really am not Professor Green. Iâm just a shy, socially awkward boy.â
He wrote in the diary, âI feel so alone at this school. No one ever wants to play with me, so I just talk to the owls every day.
âI saw the name T.M. Riddle on the diary. Is your name Riddle?
âRiddle, would you be my friend, and let me share whatâs on my mind?â
There was no response. Bruce waited a moment, then continued writingâ
âThe person I hate most is Harry Potter from Gryffindor House.
âEveryone loves him. Heâs like the sun, shining so brightly, and everyone revolves around him.
âCompared to him, Iâm just a rat in a gutter.
âI hate him so much. That scar-headed bratâso he defeated Voldemort when he was a kid? I donât believe he did it by his own power!â
Bruce found himself writing with surprising ease. He didnât know why, but once he started, the words just flowed.
It was almost as if such a person actually existed.
Kathoom glanced at the text and suddenly asked, âWhy did you make yourself sound like Malfoy?â
Huh?
Bruce snapped back to reality.
So thatâs why this description sounded so familiar!
âCongratulations, Bruce. Youâve finally mastered the art of lying.â
Kathoom laughed, âNine truths and one lie; even Merlin himself couldnât tell whatâs real!â
Bruce didnât see what was so funny. He felt heâd derailed the topic; the diary might not respond further.
After all, who would want to be friends with Malfoy?
Yet, things took an unexpected turn.
In the diary, the words âdefeated Voldemortâ were circled.
Slowly, a new line of text appeared.
âTell me more.â
A replyâheâd actually gotten a reply!
Bruceâs eyes sharpened.
Up until now, no matter the topic, Riddle had acted like he couldnât care less.
But the mention of Voldemortâs defeat had gotten him to respond.
That could mean only one thing.
Riddleâs interest in Voldemortâs downfall outweighed his fear of Professor Gale!
Why?
An idea began to form in Bruceâs mind.
Fifty years agoâŠ
Bruce started to calculate the timeline. When exactly did Voldemort begin his rise?
According to magical history, his power peaked around the seventies, when he was in his prime.
So, the timing lined up perfectly!
âKathoom!â
Bruce mentally asked, âThis Riddle⊠could he actually be Voldemort?â
âYouâre getting quicker at this, Iâll give you that.â
The owl didnât hide it, âYes, itâs him. His full name is Tom Marvolo Riddle. Rearrange the letters, and youâll find the answer.â
Bruce thought for a moment.
Tom Marvolo Riddle
âI am Lord Voldemort!
This⊠In that moment, Bruce didnât feel fear; heâd never been scared of Voldemort to begin with.
But an odd thought popped into his mind.
The Half-Blood Prince Snape, the Dark Lord TomâŠ
âWhy do they all come up with these names?â Bruce asked Kathoom, âDonât they feel embarrassed?â
âWhy would they be embarrassed?â The owl fluffed his feathers. âIâm also The Demon King- Kathoom!â
For the first time, Bruce felt a profound sense of isolation.
What kind of people was he surrounded by?
Compared to this bunch, even the name âBatmanâ sounded mundane.
On the other end, the diary grew impatient from the lack of response. For the first time, Riddle took the initiative to start the conversation.
âDid something happen, my dear Bruce? Why arenât you answering me?â
Riddle asked, âArenât we friends?â
He was clearly eager to get more information from Bruce.
As a soul from Voldemortâs sixth year, he brimmed with confidence, convinced heâd achieve great things.
But now, hearing that his future self had been defeated by an infant, yet lacking detailsâhow could he not be agitated!
âRiddle, are you that interested in Voldemort?â
Bruce wrote in the diary, âDo you think Harry Potter is that impressive too?â
Riddle caught the underlying message.
He began to accept Bruceâs character as a sensitive, lonely boy. Riddle always knew how to handle such people.
âNot at all, my dear Bruce.â
Riddle wrote, âThough Iâm merely a diary, even Iâve heard of Voldemort. Heâs a powerful wizard.
âSomeone like himâhow could he possibly be defeated by a baby? There must be more to it!
âThis Harry Potterâlikely just a fraud basking in stolen glory!
âCome now, Bruce, tell me more, and together, weâll uncover the truth about Potter!â
His words felt sincere and heartfelt, as if he truly cared about Bruceâs troubles.
âI will, Tom.â
Bruce wrote in the diary, âIâll tell you everything I know.â
---
About an hour later, Bruce closed the diary.
Using telepathy, he and Kathoom began plotting right under Voldemortâs nose.
âThis guy really knows how to butter people up; I could barely stand it.â
Bruce sighed, âIf I were just an ordinary student, I mightâve started seeing him as a confidant.â
Some of Voldemortâs compliments were over the top.
For instance, he even saidâ
âYouâre destined for greatness, while I am but humble dust by the wayside. Just being by your side for a while is the greatest fortune of my life.â
âlines like that.
Who could resist?
âYou should learn from him,â Kathoom said, âSay things like that to me.â
âIn your dreams.â
Bruce returned to the main topic, âProfessor Gale must know Voldemortâs identity, right? Then why is he so carefree about handing the diary to a student?â
He even planned to summon Voldemortâs soul into Snapeâs dreams.
Who could come up with such an idea?
Was Professor Gale really not afraid that when Snape woke up, his soul mightâve already been replaced by Voldemortâs?
Bruce sighed. âNow what?â
Professor Galeâs plan seemed like a last-minute brainwave.
Dumbledore would never approve of letting Voldemort enter Snapeâs body.
âStop stressing out; itâs not that big of a problem.â
Kathoom thought for a moment, then suggested a solution. âWe can still summon his soul, just without the reverse connectionâuse the diary as a link.â
âWhat do you mean?â Bruce asked.
âThe diary can absorb souls to strengthen itself.â
Kathoom explained, âItâs actually a kind of soul-linking ability. Since thatâs the case, we can have it link to Snape.
âWhen that happens, Snapeâs thoughts will appear in the diary, and anything written in the diary can reach Snapeâs mind.
âThere are still risks, of course, but with Dumbledore and Professor Gale monitoring, it should be manageable.â
Bruce understood the owlâs meaning.
This would prevent Voldemort from directly entering Snapeâs dreams; instead, the diary would serve as a medium to communicate with the sleeping Snape.
This way, Voldemortâs soul remained trapped in the diary, unable to harm Snape directly.
It was a solid plan.
Howeverâ
âWait a minute, why are you being so helpful?â
Bruce suddenly realized that Kathoom was actually being serious about finding a solution this time.
That made him a bit suspicious.
âBruce, hearing you say that just breaks my heart.â
Kathoom faked a couple of sobs, âI may be a demon, but I have a heart of gold. Iâm a good owl!â
Could an owl really have ill intentions?
Bruce wasnât buying it. âCut the act; even if you wanted to mess with someone, you wouldnât hide it from me. Unless youâre trying to mess with me!â
âYouâre overthinking it!â
Kathoom dropped his act, âI just thought we could broadcast Snapeâs dreams for everyone to see.â
