Painting Studies for the Dragon

I think the dragon has around 3 more hours to go till finish(mostly in the mouth and figuring out if I want to add the rider) I'll be posting the process video going from the drawing I've already posted to the finished painting when I'm done with it!
Regarding the studies, I did the gaping komodo dragon mouth because I wanted something similar in the final image with my dragon's jaws (although I haven't rendered them out yet). It makes sense for the mouth part to be pretty rendered out since it's right next to the head/eye focal point, and it's also closest to the viewer.
With the bats I focused mainly on the way the further wing changes hue in relationship to the closer one, although I didn't exactly use it in my painting since my situation is a bit different.

Hey, thanks for the question! I don't exactly set a hard time constraint, but I have enough experience now to gauge roughly how long the thing is going to take. For example, I didn't have a specific time constraint on this dragon since I wasn't trying to finish him in one go and I was testing a bit of a different process with doing a finished pencil drawing, but at certain stages I could make an educated guess on how long I had left. For the creatuanary paintings, I had more strict constraints, since I knew I had around 2-4 hours every day to finish each one, and I could narrow on a more specific time because I had general ideas for the style of finish I was going for. So, for example, I know a colored drawing of certain complexity takes from an hour to three hours, and so on for different finishes. Also a good tip when predicting how much something will take is to add 50% of what you originally though it would take, at least for me, because I generally tend to overestimate how fast I can do something. And also, it's much easier to guess the time it takes for simpler things (like a single dragon figure and simple background) than for complex things, and the margin of error for your guesses increases a lot the longer the guess is, kinda obviously.(so if something takes an hour, you might miss it by 15 or 30 mins, but if something takes 20 hours, you might miss it by 5 hours)

Like this Fellbeast piece or say your other Creaturenary ones, I'm curious if you find yourself naturally finishing them at a set pace or you place strict time constraints on personal work in order to work on stuff such as client work. I know it's such a weird question but I admire your speed and work ethic! :D
