Connecting With a Tarot Deck - Podcast + Transcript

Good morning moon babes! This post is directly inspired by y'all!! It was one of the suggestions on the Running Content Idea List 🤍🔮🌙. One of you amazing babes asked for info on what to do with a tarot deck that you just can't connect with, so that's what I'm talking about today! I recorded this on Monday but wanted to get it posted right away.

Coming at you with a thing that you guys asked for and it is today's podcast episode is on how to connect with a tarot deck that you just literally can't connect with or what to do with a tarot deck that you didn't connect with. And you're wondering what's what's tea What do I do now Stass?

Someone gifted this to me slash I bought it myself and now it's not connecting with me the readings aren't working. Give me the most random answers this deck is rude whatever it might be. I've had this happen multiple times. And this is something that like if you collect divination tools you will or even just crystals anything in your practice, you eventually will find yourself not getting along with and I can do a whole podcast episode I had I bought myself an alligator literal face and the whole head just did not get along with me that whole spirit I had to get rid of it was an expensive purchase. So what to do, how to decipher know what's what is the next steps when this happens?

We're going to talk in the sense of Tarot because that was what you guys asked for. And I will talk about experiences that I personally have. So I don't know flashback a couple years ago, Dylan had bought me this like French vintage deck. It was literally from like the 60s. It's all in French difficult to read outside of the fact that I can't speak French. But then on top of it just like the deck never. I mean never wanted to work with me. I welcomed it in I did a cleansing did an interview asked you know what its strengths and weaknesses were and from there, I thought that I'd be able to read. So I have an identifying card for me, my ancestors, all of my spirits have their own identification cards. And I wanted to pull with that deck to see what like, we were good. My identification card doesn't come out. My ancestors identification card does not go out. It's giving very much almost trickster, but not like obviously no other spirits coming through.

So from there, I'm like, Okay, interesting. Maybe I just need to sleep with it for a few more nights getting on my altar, that kind of thing. So I sleep with an underneath my pillow for three more nights, I set it on my altar for three more days. So my ancestor helped me bless the deck, that kind of stuff. It still is giving me the wonkiest readings. And energetically, you'll just know if that reading is fitting for you. If you're doing readings for other people, especially you I just have identifying cards, I think it's always important to establish a baseline for your divination. So you can check yourself and you can also check the tool that you're using.

So after probably like a month and a half of like trying to connect with this deck, and it just not working. I was like, alright, well let me do like a I call it a welcome ceremony. It's kind of like I'm trying to win this thing over literally, it's like, so it's just a spirit. Maybe it just like, doesn't want to be with me. In my mind. Since it was vintage, I thought maybe you know it missed his old home or whatever it might be. So this is something that I think that a lot of times, once I do, I can connect with the tools. So it depends on what you're using on like what herbs and crystals and things you might want. But it's a whole ceremony, make yourself a ritualized space to welcome this tool into your practice. So get yourself the tool cleanse that I liked, I did mine on the full moon kind of did the whole ceremony and made it really beautiful. gave lots of offerings and herbs and things to the divination tool. And for me, I've done this with bones, I've done this, whatever it might be, I've always give tobacco and other things, and ancestral herbs to try to win it over. I let it sit in that for three days, three nights. And then did try to do another reading. Once that point, at that point, I've already given it offerings I've asked I've tried to do the own work on my side, and it still doesn't want to work with me, that is totally okay. And sometimes it sucks because you really wanted to use it or what maybe you spent a lot of money on this specific thing. That does suck. But I mean, it's just the way it is sometimes working with spirits.

So from there on, I would then ask the tool if it just doesn't want to be used if it would like to be used by someone else, or if you should donate it. And then from there, kind of do what you want when I had the alligator head, which is a whole nother thing. And I think we should talk about that. Because the way I went about that was really cool. Or it was cool for the practice. That specific Spirit showed me exactly where I wanted to go. Like, it didn't get along with me. I asked Okay, do you want to go somewhere else I asked him where it would like to go into show boom, I sent it to one of my friends. And it literally loves it's like there he works very, very hard for my friend and is a great spirit, but just was not the best for me. And to be honest, I thought I was gonna get the alligator spirit when really I just ended up getting a horse spirit on my altar. I got some horse bones and stuff and that was way better for me. So sometimes you just don't align with it. And that's totally okay. So give yourself some time. Whether it be a welcome ritual, or maybe you're just offering the spirit of the divination tool. A couple of nice things. Maybe it just needs like energy, that kind of thing. Try it out. But if it's not working out for you, that's totally okay. Check and see, I always think like asking the spirit, what what it wants is the best thing. It's the most moral morality, morally correct thing to do.

You can I mean, I'm not someone that thinks forcing tools to work with you ever really works. So I'm the first one to be like, Okay, I've tried everything I can but I'm gonna let this go.
