And this is a fragment of the story:
-----
βHi,β I say.
She removes a strand of dark, shiny hair from her face and answers.
βHi!β
She has a surprisingly feminine, cute face, a half-sly, half-mysterious smile, and deep blue eyes, which is not common among oriental women. Bracelets and rings on her hands. Pendant on a thin chain in the form of a seashell. Leather sandals. And it feels like she is not real.
βHow's it going?β I'm trying to find the right words to introduce myself.
βIt's rainy,β she takes her eyes off the phone, βand you?β
βPretty gustyβ
βI noticed,β she laughs.
There are sparks of rain in her eyes. And in my world, it's like the volume has been turned down. The sound of the downpour and the noise of the road faded. My heart beats faster. Electricity runs through my skin. As though I'm falling off a cliff.
βMy name is Mia,β she holds out her hand and smiles, squinting her eyes.
She pulls me out of my stupor.
βKirill,β I come to my senses and think what a melodious and gentle voice she has.
βNice,β the phone screen lit up her face, βI got to go,β she throws with a laugh and runs to the Go-Jek, the local motorcycle cab.
βWait, can we exchange phone numbers?β
βAhah,β she laughs, βThat's unnecessary, see you,β and she gets on the bike, ignoring the downpour.
βWhat do you mean?β I try to shout out the rain.
She looks back, her black hair spreading over her fragile open shoulders, tilts her head with a cunning smile, and sends an air kiss. And the scooter scurries off into the distance splattering puddles on the road.
