Hello Patrons!
I hope this finds you all not too traumatised by your recent experience of Stroggification in first person!
In something of a Team Beef "Shock and Awe" tactic, hot on the heals of the recent Quake4 patreon release comes some more exciting news.. Return to Castle Wolfenstein is coming to a PCVR headset near you soon!
In fact, there's quite a bit more to it than that. This isn't simply a PCVR conversion of Team Beef's existing RTCW Quest port, this is a completely new VR conversion of not the vanilla RTCW (which was excellent of course), but of the fantastic RealRTCW mod. This mod is like RTCW++.. a huge array of additional weapons, environmental effects (snow etc) and improvements to pretty much every aspect of the original game. It is an extremely well received mod (as can be seen on its Steam reviews), and can be found on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1379630/RealRTCW/) or ModDb, and best of all it is free (it requires owning the original game, there is also a RealRTCW supporter pack that allows you to show appreciation to the mod's developer for their hard work: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1508910/RealRTCW__Supporter_Pack).
We've been in touch with the developer wolfetplayer / realrtcwdev who was very enthusiastic about the possibility of a Team Beef VR port, I sincerely hope we can deliver on their expectations!
Whilst it is still early days, as you can see from the attached video there's already been a lot of progess made (thanks to having previous experience of various aspects of this port's requirements).. it's already rendering nicely to the headset, proper 6DoF (including weapons though a lot more work is required there), immersive cutscenes, gesture use. In fact it is probably it is already quite playable. So once a few of the more serious bugs have been eliminated we are looking to get you an early access, "warts n' all", in development, take it as it comes, build for you to look at.
Some of the features that we intend to add to this port further down the line are:
This game is so good it deserves some great features in the VR port.. if time allows and it doesn't turn out to be a complete nightmare to implement we might even consider looking at some manual or semi-manual reload mechanics, but we'll reserve the right to make a final decision on this one depending on the complexity of it.
So there you go, I hope this is good news for many of you, and watch this space as there will be something for you to try very soon!
All the best and many thanks again for your continued support helping to make these ports happen.
