X Paper 226 - Masked vs Un-masked units.

In the early days of militarized operations on Mallera-9 units were unmasked and easily identifiable.

The adoption of masks into combat operations were due to a number of reasons that were all operational in nature.  Masks were introduced before the introduction of ORC.

1: Inter-unit interactions & relationships: Units began to develop friendships and formed bonds between each other which in sectors that experienced a high number of expenditure seen variations in unit performance.

2: Command unit humanization of combat units: Command units would often feel for a unit seeing emotional expression on units faces & would hesitate to give orders that result in expenditure. This affected combat ability and effectiveness against enemy assets over time.

3: Identification of combat units post service:  this was the major contributing factor to implementing the now standard half mask. If a unit was to complete her contract period & then return to normal life her face is forever on enemy data bases. In instances units were captured in the "real world" & taken away, interrogated and forced information.
