The Combat Units have certain ideals in their thought processes after some time of service. Most are definitively there for the money, the promise of a better life after receiving payment for service...
However there are aspects which do become enjoyable to most however most tend to not like much of their service period.
Long days of boredom, on their feet all day. Continuous training & Azologoth.
Aspects of the service which they come to enjoy is often related to the power aspect. Patrols in large groups, the feeling of power when a sector comes together for presentation.
Simulation drills can be enjoyable.
But for most, combat is very exciting & really gets them going, well as much as ORC will allow.
Throughout a career they will participate in multiple lower intensity skirmishes where they will either take out enemy units, their squad members will or one of their fellow combat units will be expended.
The short bursts of action give a little bit of a fix for them, but generally leave much wanting.
If they are lucky they may participate in mass battles
This gives opportunity for an extended period of excitement and action that could last hours.
The best feeling for them is when their side wins a mass battle, with them obviously still functioning. There is a certain euphoria for them when there is dozens of enemy and their own combat units strewen expended in the skirmish area, with them standing amongst them.
Most come to terms with the notion they can potentially be expended. Most view themselves at this point as simply an offering to the company, with their fate out of everyones control.
However the matter of fate is one with slight more complexity
They do serve the mistress and black faction and view the offering to have purpose.
If their demise were to bring no value, the units see it as a waste.
There is a re-enforcement of this value in sacrifice that persists.
In a mass battle where a unit may see another rush a position suicidily to take out a single enemy unit, only to be obliterated - this would come across as something to aspire to in a way
The units would then attempt the same.
However in the case of being consumed by an Azologoth, the outcome is less favorable as the expendature via the Azog is generally avoidable.
This then is possibly the worst way a unit can expend apart from liquid earth
