The hunt for Neon Dark costs combat units, simple.

If they are directly engaging an Azologoth to extract, some combat units are disappearing below the surface.

If they are attacking a competing companies extraction squad, after they have extracted it from an azologoth, well they are going to fight until they are taken out.

Its the ultimate game which yields the ultimate prize, fortunes to be made.

But getting zipped across the body in some firefight over a resource is the least of any budding combat units worries.

Their biggest concern is the Azologoth grabbing them and dragging them into the abyss. Which happens with every extraction. At least one will go down.

The rest may make it back to their HQ without being attacked, or they may be attacked and after surviving the azologoth extraction, they might be just that little bit unlucky to get zipped up and taken out by an attacking foe attempting to rob them.

Working for any company is dangerous work. Most do make it out, but that most is barely "most".

Most past first contract, many sign a new contract out of greed, most of those don't make second contract. Its a numbers game. But when your number is up, you'll wanna be zipped up by the other colours because the rabbit hole of the zog is not ideal.

Those who have managed to get away from a tentacle speak of its strength, not crushing strength, but a formative "cast" like strength which fits comfortably like a glove, but doesn't budge.

The very very few who have gotten free before the Maw note their feeling of impending doom as they get dragged down the tub from the surface, watching that Maw open up is a sight to behold.

If you pass through the Maw, what is known is that you embark on a journey of darkness, suffocation, squeezed from all directions by flesh walls, squeezed through tight spaces as you proceed deeper and deeper under ground with no way out.
