Standard Combat Unit Kelly with the New BFC Rifle.

The new rifle initiative was implemented by Vanessa, taking interest in some of the weaponry used by her forces, she spoke with some of the technicians with regards to maintenance of the SBR (Current Standard issue) & ongoing supply issues arising. 

Currently the SBR operates from multi use binary shells which have an electronic fire control mechanism. The Lithium Ion Batteries degraded faster in the environment of Mallera-9 as opposed to their specification testing outside of the Zone. Almost all SBR Batteries will require replacement in the near future. 

Some of the wire contacts are beginning to corrode and generally the build of the SBR is more flimsy than the BDR. (Old Rifle).

Recovering dropped weapons from expended units often only yields ammunition as the weapon is press formed polymer in only a handful of pieces.  Cracks in the bolt housing, barrel and damage to the firing assembly are common leaving the rifle uselss.

The advantage of the BDR was the durability, interchangeability and non electric binary chemical propellant system. However the disadvantage was the requirement for gas cylinder charging at base. If a unit was on an multi day mission with drawn out running Skirms she could expect her BDR to run out of propellant. 

The SBR was to be the answer along with Zuvic Tech ceasing BDR Supply and Production however the problems are beginning to have an effect. 

The requirements were outlined in a dossier issued by the technical specifications division to engineering on orders by Vanessa.

2. Mechanical/chemical firing mechanism

3.changeable gas cylinder block

4. large magazine capacity (300 plus Spike rounds)

The design that won was called Prototype #3 - which adopted the name

SCR (Standard Combatant/Combat Rifle)

But Stock contains the Gas apparatus and can be swapped out with a spare carried by the unit

The gun is largely modular so recovery from expended units has merit 

the magazine capacity has 320 rounds

Range and velocity comparable to the SBR and BDR
