As mentioned previously a large portion of the Standard Combat units time on the island is in idle duties or merely nothing happening.
This can also be said for the other companies combatants too.
We do focus solely on the action because that is where the excitement is. But for every hour of action there are hundreds upon hundreds of mundane nothing.
ORC plays its part in ensuring that the women follow orders. But it also keeps them focused during the periods of boredom and stops them wandering off.
The disciplined is trained in, then the discipline is Maintained by ORC.
But below ORC many of the normal though processes go on, however in a skewed manner in which the unit cannot enact upon.
In the mundane world of patrol or sentry duty, the unit may walk up and down a corridor non stop for over 8 hours.
The order for the unit is to patrol until relieved, the thoughts inside the units head is to find a spot, or sit down but ORC compels her to keep walking.
When approaching an Azologoth the order is to disable it, shoot the tentacles , however below the ORC is the thought of avoid the creature.
When seeing a fellow unit swallowed by the creature, disappearing into the abyss the orders remain in place, render no assistance to the fellow unit, beneath ORC is the compulsion to move away after seeing the woman slip into the creature. One factor remains the same, the training and indoctrination has rendered their perception of their fellow combat units as faceless automatons.
Thus raises an internal crisis often faced and dealt with in the early stages of service with black faction, the question to one self of their inherit value in the battle scape.
Some of this is dealt with in various forms of rationale, from “well lets see if I make it through” to “I will perform to my best & hopefully they notice me” to “I need to take out ever enemy unit I can in order to survive”
So in combat situations the though patterns change from initial to ending. Depending on the situation ofcourse.
Research was conducted shortly after the Zuvic incursion/Apex Wars & Mallera Deep operations to get an idea of the undercurrent thought processes under ORC & how to harness the psychology of the combat unit for better effectiveness.
Zuvic Incursion, Apex Wars & Mallera Deep swallowed more Combat Units than every other operation combined in the History of the inter company wars on Mallera-9.
The Zuvic Incursion left very little data due to the large number who went down with the Zuvic Facility.
Most of the Units who got out were in the final waves with just a few in the first waves.
With orders coming into proceed downwards, the women in the first wave noted the sheer number of black faction units being expended just breaching the entrance & that each and every corridor cost dozens upon dozens in eliminations.
After a short period of undercurrent thoughts like “any second now Im going to get hit” were washed away & the unit focus mainly on the task at hand.
As the facility began to sink & orders were given out to proceed to the surface to escort high ranking units on to evacuation transports, the thought of lucky as most were ordered to keep fighting to prevent the Zuvic units escaping.
The undercurrent though at that point took a strange turn, the desire to see the mission out, eliminate as many Zuvic units as possible was extremely tempting even though it resulted in certain self expending.
As for final wave units, the scale of the battle was evident by the number of bodies littering the landing deck & corridors. Piled up black and green clad bodies everywhere on the long journey to the bottom. It did not seem like there was a single corner that didn’t cost atleast 10 or 20 Standard Combat Units.
The ORC order was to get down and get into the fight but shortly before reaching the battle zone the facility was disabled by Ayla & they were recalled to the transports. The undercurrent was an eagerness to reach the fight and see what was happening. Upon recall they felt as though they missed out on the action.
