Everyone is there to benefit from it. The combat units are greedy for fast money, relative to the average person.
The command ranks of the companies are swimming in cash, thirsty for more.
The upper echelons of the companies are beyond wealthy, where nothing matters, every day is a performance to satisfy desires of grandeur, upping their competition.
We will explore this month, how their god decides their fate.

I love the idea that the elites all generally get along even if they are enemies in the zone. They are in the same social circles, attend the same parties. Like competing attorneys who drink together after a trial. Or political rivals who publicly trash each other but speak amicably in private. And they set up fiendish scenarios with their respective combatants to fill their boredom. Perhaps a BFC and CPD commander make a bet and set up a skirm among their respective squads. They include traps and pitfalls, they select special uniforms for their units to wear with little to no tactical purpose. They set up cameras in the corridors and drones to follow their squads so they can get up close to the action in real time. The video feeds to a huge bank of screens where the elites sit and watch the skirm together like football fans. A digital scoreboard keeps tally of the eliminations, showing aftermath of each expended unit for verification. Perhaps the units have no clue they are merely a pawn in someone's fantasy. Or perhaps they are fully aware and relish the challenge. Or savor the opportunity to please their mistress and give her a "good" elimination. Maybe these ideas don't fit in the Neon Dark universe very well, but I just love the idea of elites sending out their soldiers on a suicide mission for their own pleasure and entertainment.
