Synopsis below
The CPD plan to recapture Dione has failed. Ahna has been captured by Black Faction, Kandi is posing as a PSU working on a way to break Dione Out and all seems hopeless for CPD at this point.
Caterina is yet to find out about her daughters (Dione) peril and a CPD commander has taken it upon herself to hire some Elite Units (from KTS possibly) to retrieve Dione before Caterina finds out.
The Mistress knows this and has given Vanessa her plan, her vision of what will conspire.
The Mistress's plan involves a highly competent unit infiltrating the CPD Elites and drawing them into an ambush.
The unit or "The Plant" must not reveal her cover and must act as though she is a real CPD Unit.
Vanessa has been ordered to throw everything at the Elites and "The Plant" to ensure their total destruction.
This will attract the eyes of the financial auditors of CPD, who will inform Caterina of the High Stakes Operation being undertaken under her nose and with out her permission.
If she were to see in the replay the Elites being taken out by an insider, she will become suspicious of the circumstances and possibly fail to believe fully her daughters peril.
She must believe that her daughters capture, the previous failed attempts and the final attempt with the Elites are abject failures of her forces to produce a meaningful outcome.
Knowing under these circumstances that she cannot possibly get Dione back, she will have to crawl to the Mistress to negotiate.
The Mistresses Plan requires The Plant be expended and must fight hard, eliminating as many of her own as possible.
As a token of her appreciation for her upcoming sacrifice to the Company , The Mistress has Vanessa present her with the Black Star.
The Black Star is presented to units who are set to expended for the company off ORC. Usually reserved higher ranking units or elites.
No Standard Combat Unit is ever awarded the Black Star as they are operating on ORC, therefor out of their own control.
Also the Mistress does not see them as important or even human, merely meat machines or drones there for money and ready to be sacrificed.

2022-06-15 12:47:50 +0000 UTCFinally got around to watching this episode, and I really enjoyed it. Thanks much to the whole production team, on both sides of the camera. A few highlights: - A whole new level of evil, with Vanessa deliberately trying to get BFC units killed off as "the war is over" and there is no need for such large forces (or to pay them). - Lani reluctantly but loyally serving as the sacrificial lamb (and fighting very well!). - Some excellent combat action, with more tactical awareness, use of cover, and teamwork. Units getting expended a few at a time until the whole squad is gone. And the right mix of hapless units getting gunned down. Excellent falls, grunts, finishing off the wounded, and general violence. - Nice to see more casualties among the mid-level commanders, particularly as their squads are killed off. Again a nice realism touch. - Enjoyed the intercuts of Vanessa directing the troops (realistic), and her pushing them to advance (and get killed off).
