If there were awards for combat units exposed to combat, then more than likely it would go to Major Standards.
Selected from Standard combat unit or Elite Units there are minimum requirements for entry.
They must have scored high on the psychometric tests upon entry, have a minimum of 1 contract (4 years) experience and have scored over 10 solo eliminations.
The incidences of units scoring 10 is not so low however the situations that see them scoring multiple hits usually incur significant exposure to enemy fire….
After selection they are offered the rank where they undergo training. They are permitted to refuse however most don’t, because they are allowed a high level of autonomy as a Major Standard plus a significant pay rise plus bonuses for kills scored by their underlings.
Their role is command system operations along with field work where they work closely with their squads to achieve certain goals.
Up until the Zuvic Incursion Major Standards were in control of one Cache each or about 90 combat units.
Almost 50 Major Standards were reconfigured to operate as squad commanders in the raid on the Zuvic Platform.
4 Made it off the platform. The rest along with hundreds upon hundreds of Standard Combat Units were expended in either heavy corridor to corridor skirming or a slow protracted demise into liquid earth filling every cavity of the facility.
The combat experience and command prowess lost in the Zuvic incursion was an extreme blow to Black Factions operational capability. They began to be seen as the company with terrible tactics and poor command afterwards.
Between the end of the Zuvic incursion and the start of the Apex wars the remaining Major Standards were sprinkled amongst the Operational Sectors to report directly to each operational captain or manager.
With a major standard controlling every single Cache, having well experienced units operating under them, Black Faction was highly formidable.
With one Major Standard controlling adhoc task groups comprised of 18-20 year old fresh recruits with little to no experience things began to get messy.
Tactics and doctrine adapted to the new command conditions. Units who may meet the criteria for being a Major Standard simply were not surviving long enough to be offered.
The Mistresses obsession with saving money on their payouts, trying to kill off combat units before she had to pay them hurt her company.
Black Faction simply recruited vast numbers of women to fill boots and the Major Standards were then expected to fill the capability void with effective unit utilization.
Major Standards began to be very wasteful with resources because the only way to achieve objectives became, throw more bodies at it.
The Major Standards quickly learned that there is always another body to replace the others.
