Why ORC was introduced

Initially as a solution for dealing with Azologoth as they are terrifying they were introduced for combat operations across the major companies.
Early on the Mistress herself was involved directly with operations, controlling movements and strategy
The company was of a few thousand and recruitment was ramping up.
The time it was taking to develop and train employees at the time was outweighed by the need just to get boots to an area.
In multiple instances where The Mistresses forces failed objectives, it was due to "lack of discipline".
Whole Caches would pull back from an objective after upon a handful of Combat Employees being taken out or killed (they used that word prior to full corporatization)
The final straw was a series of surrenders where her own combat employees were captured, interrogated and recycled into enemy service.
Pledges of commitment were not enough. Threats of legal pursuit or non payment of contract didn't stop them from retreating or surrendering.
Sure some were killed in skirmishes. But it was more incidental rather than a commitment
She needed commitment and ORC ensured that every woman working for her was committed to their orders.
The first step was re-designation from employee to unit.
The change in tactic and application warranted a "measure" rather than a "person"
The second was designation from killed to expended. A unit cannot be killed, they can only be expended and replenished.
The third was a test.
A randomly selected combat unit was sent to approach an enemy position. In the open, firing off the hip.
she received her orders, processed them "yes ma'am" and walked towards them in the open.
The enemy was at first stunned, a lone combat unit walking calmly towards them firing off the hip.
They volleyed rounds into her body dropping her.
No glory, no ceremony. The combat unit followed her orders to her doom.
The Mistress had her power.
