Most of the infrastructure left over from the experiment that makes up the combat environment is dilapidated concrete which served nothing more than access and sea water flow to support the experiment.
When large numbers of expenditures occur and there is a lull in the skirm, units will quickly create defensive piles from expended units as cover.
Units may still be slightly active during this, forced into an embrace with the enemy who may have just taken them out.
