Money Thirsty Merc #2 - Subject: Why

The rain was showing no sign of letting up, in fact it was beginning to get heavier and heavier. Flight crews were scrambling to put covers over the intakes on the craft and plugging in chargers. Looks like we were staying here for a while. Possibly overnight.

The crew I came in with went inside to find a place to set up for the night, or atleast a few hours and hunt down some food.

I could hear talk about the possibility of the recruits proceeding on foot for the 30 kilometre journey underground. The move would increase the chance of an enemy encounter and most definitely see a few lost to liquid earth and other nasties the island holds.

I spot one clearly seasoned combatant and approach her to ask questions. Luckily she obliges.

The first question I ask as always is why join V-Corp?

"money, pure and simple"

But there's money with all the companies.

"This company is new, they're growing it and dont even have a proper command structure yet. Ill prove myself here get up in those ranks on the big bucks"

I was taken back, so I asked 'you've done this before?

"That's right, CPD 2 and a bit contracts. I commanded a Delta there, 180 units"

Tell me more about your time with CPD?

"Joined up as a Mercinette, then worked my way up the hard way skirming with Black Faction, got Form leader after 8 months in and by year two I was Commanding a Trinite"

"After running two successful raids per month for close to a year I got promoted and given command of a full Delta"

That's amazing well done, hopefully you have the same success here. So what exactly did you do with a Delta? Its quite mysterious to an outsider.

"The name of the game is Neon Dark. There is the Azologoth we have in our territory, Black Faction has their territory and Azologoth too. But its pretty exhausted most of the time. The contested areas are where its rich."

So you would fight for control of contested area?

"Not necessarily, we would stalk and cover Black Faction extraction parties and take them on after they extracted the Neon Dark".

"Attack their outposts nearby with smaller forces while ambushing their extraction teams, essentially locking up re-enforcements and forcing the hand of the Sector Commanders to send standby units. "

Isn't that stealing?

"yes it is, but we prefer to call it competition, besides those Black Faction girls are trained to shoot anything not in black, like ours are trained to shoot anything in Black. So I guess we never had a choice did we"
