I legit don't understand ppl hating on Sense being hard on test takers for a FIRST CLASS Mage Exam. She's doing her job to make sure they don't come out as pansies who bitch and moan whenever shit gets tough. She's spitting facts the whole time, and so many reactors are being oversensitive about it and they're not even in the anime. If they can't handle an actual First Class Mage, then they should give up and leave. The point of the test is to prove they can hang in the big leagues. There is no room for little bitches who can't adapt.

so Ubel's thing is her magic is all vibes. She goes off feelings and intuition. That means she can make some almost impossible things seem ridiculously easy, but it also means she isn't very good at logically working around a problem that thwarts her feelings. She has a hard time with simple defensive magic because she doesn't feel like it can be cut, where as other mages will use reason and figure out a way around the defensive magic.

I have always loved Ubel so much. An absolute psycho who thinks everyone else is crazy for not seeing the obvious. Sure, if you cast a visible defensive barrier then she can't imagine cutting it and it'll work. Weave all those barriers into clothes or hair and she finds it so odd that anyone would struggle. Hair and clothes are things meant to be cut, why should her magic not cut through them? It's insane and no other mage operates on the same logic, because they internally know that the magic in these things makes them invincible. My favorite detail here is that she's not ignorant of the presence of defensive spells in the things she cuts. She can fully tell that there is defensive magic in the clothes and hair, yet all of that is irrelevant by the simple fact that they are materials meant to be cut. She sees the defenses, and she can tell there's powerful magic being used, but it's all irrelevant because she just believes these items MUST be cut. Her magic is fairly weak, but her logic is terrifying and makes her one of the most difficult mages to fight.
