Jess is allergic to early mornings, and isn’t exactly pleased with Edward’s habit of waking up with the sun and dragging the sleeping fox up with him, but he gets over it pretty quick. Wearing Ed’s shirt from last night and downing his first cup of coffee, already brewing a second for himself and one for Ed, he looks over and sees the wolf paying particularly close attention to his phone. That’s nothing new, really. Ed is damn nearly always on his phone when he’s not in business meetings, signing papers, or tinkering in his lab/workshop. But he’s not usually glued to his phone this early in the morning, before he’s even had his coffee. Was it good news? Bad? An especially funny video? Ed was always so stone-faced and stoic, it’s a perpetual challenge to gage the wolfs mood on looks alone, and it’s too early for Jess to put a real effort into trying to sleuth it out.
“What’s got you so engrossed this early?“ Jess asked, coming up to the wolf’s side and looking around his shoulder to see what was so fascinating.
”Alex made the news…” Ed mumbled back, his voice a bit gravelly from just waking up. “Again…”
”What he’d do this time? Get caught streaking in public?”
“He bought Pawside for 32.3 million.”
Pawside? Jess racked his tired brain. He was sure he’d heard of that before…
Sensing the foxes confusion, Ed elaborated. “A small company specializing in encoding, and who happen to have developed a particularly powerful and intelligent algorithm to help optimize computer and smartphone software. I’ve been constructing contracts and been in talks of offering to buy them out and integrate them into Crow Co., but it looks like Alex beat me to it.”
”But what does Alex want with a company like that? He’s in the entertainment business…”
The wolf leaned in closer to the fox, tilting his phone so they could both see the article. “According to this, it says he’s planning on setting up a deal with Crow Co….”
”Well… that’s good… right?”
”It would be,” Ed groaned, taking a mug from the fox’s outstretched hand. “If I had known about this months ago… Now I have to have contracts drawn up from scratch since the one’s I had before are useless now, and knowing Alex, he’ll likely make it extra difficult on me.”
Jess chuckled as he took a sip from his own mug. “I’m sure he was just trying to be nice and get you something you wanted.”
Ed lifted his own mug to his muzzle, talking into it. ”Then he should have gotten me a tie…”
