I saw a.. im not sure what to call it. tongue in cheek? version many years ago at the MGM in reno. I think the cast was having a day off which is why the tickets were so cheap for my father and I. That version was quite hilarious, when it wasn't pants crap scary. The MGM's play room did have a moving chandelier and they abused that on more that one one-off scene. This is a entertaining story, the musical is immortal (Seriously check out Lindsey Sterling's video on the theme) and the story very good in it's boiled down essence. But Yes, I agree, the Lloyd Webber version (flawed as the man is) is a needed adaptation from the original material.

2019-11-15 22:38:27 +0000 UTCRegarding Andrew Lloyd Webber projecting some of himself onto the Opera Ghost; I remember from Terry Pratchett's novel Maskerade (for those who don't know it a lot of the plot is a satire of The Phantom of the Opera), that the operas written by Walter Plinge, the Ankh-Morpork Opera Ghost, were all thin-veiled references to Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals.
