Pride and Prejudice ~ Lost in Adaptation

Oh, Mr DARCY! O_O

Pride and Prejudice ~ Lost in Adaptation

Comments

I would really love to see an entire Jane Austin series since her stuff has been adapted and readapted so many times.

Robert Pope

Dang, it should've been Pride and Prejudice AND ZOMBIES. I actually went and watched that after you uploaded this, but forgot to comment here lol

I fell in love with Jane Austen’s work because of the sass. I first read her in high school and we were supposed to spend an entire trimester on P and P and I took it home and read it in one night! So much sass!

I would love to see a video where you compare the various adaptations of Pride and Prejudice to the original as well as to each other.

Now I'm looking forward to that too! Love the book!

I'll stand with you! This series is perfect, the movie was... far from.

Most excellent! And this really gets me warmed up for my Patreon pick, whenever in the distant future its turn will come. Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell owes a lot to Jane Austen's writing style and snarky characters...

Iago24

beautiful! thank you! LOVE the bloopers !

Ioana Sofonea

Your cutaway gags are giving me life! I *desperately* needed a laugh like that today! Thank you!

Daniel Allen

It's a little earlier, but check out Fantomina by Eliza Haywood. Oh my gosh, so good. And I'm not sure how "romantic" it is, but William Makepeace Thackeray's Vanity Fair is a great read.

I love that you mention the sass as I’ve been listening my way through the Jane Austin Books. I just finished Northanger Abbey, and I adore our young gentleman in that. He is so sassy and it’s highly fun to watch him tease our young miss throughout the story.

I’ll subscribe if Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is one of those adaptations you’d be willing to revisit.

If you ever have the urge to see a great transformation of Pride and Prejudice, I recommend The Lizzy Bennett Diaries over on YouTube. It sets the story in modern day, but manages to adhere to the feel of the book, while updating the externals i.e. some of the issues are breaking into the business world for women. And Lydia comes off as MUCH more sympathetic. I love this episode, so thanks for doing it.

Shoutout to the Patron who requested this, the miniseries is better than the movie and people can fight me on this

I really enjoyed this one! For those who have trouble reading P&P, I would recommend an audio book. Most of the versions really nail the delicate mockery that Austen excelled in.

Just finished. Loved the Duke of Badass song. Il Neige has done it again.

I have read dozens of historical romances. But I've actually never read Pride and Prejudice. My big take away, is that I can now understand that all historical romances are essentially based off this one plot. Except they all have way more pre-marital sex.

Brigid Ryan

I personally find Austen harder to understand while reading then Shakespeare. It took multiple watchings of Sense & Sensibility to be able to understand the book. I'm never reading her again.

Oh I love your skits! They always make my day better 😁

This the best episode so far. I hope the Darcy Shade stinger works its way into other reviews :-) Has DN done Jane Eyre yet? I would like to see that. I also would love to see him compare The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking and the story itself. It's practically "In Name Only," but just for the reason to see DN in red pigtails would be worth it

Leslie Helwig

I know it's far-fetched but part of me wants you to do Pride and Prejudice and Zombies now

I'm so glad you enjoyed this show. It's one of my favourite shows especially as an adaptation due to its accuracy.

Kallum

Thank you dom! Out of the 6 patreons I follow, you are the only one who still does anything! Lol

I love the skits in this. "Oh, that's not a promise all!" XD

Is it bad to say Dom looks really good in a dress? Joking aside, I was shocked to see this was as good of an adaptation. I might end up getting this series for my grandmother since she loved the Pride and Prejudice movie and watched it nonstop back in the day. Great video Dom, as always.

Sebastian Canino (Cinemageddon Reviews)

This is part of the reason I prefer a miniseries over a movie for adaptation almost always. Also quite convincing evidence that Colin Firth should wear more wet shirths ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Stella Bella

Based on what I saw in Kingsman, Colin Firth popping up in a church can be a dangerous thing.

6:10 Hey, it's Cicero!

Magical Mr. Mistoffelees

I fear I may have an unpopular opinion of this book. I don't enjoy it at all. Or, frankly, the movie (haven't seen the BBC version). Afraid I must agree with Miss Bronte. For a period romance, I would much rather read Anna Karenina or The Count of Monte Cristo. Or Les Miserables.

Magical Mr. Mistoffelees

Do Emma next! If you think Austen would have had the vapours upon seeing Colin Firth strip down to his shirt as Mr Darcy...wait till you see how much further Johnny Flynn goes as Mr Knightley!

Actually, pectorals tend to buff up when the man works out so that chest is, indeed, very manly.

Love when you do an episode with lots of constumes, it's just great. Also I fully agree with the phrase "It's disturbing how well this dress fits my manly, manly chest"

Tachpmg

"Did I fucking stutter, asshole?"

LinguaPhiliax

That was great!

It was about 6:30 pm here.

Chris Palmer

Dom it's like 2am, why are you posting at this time on night?! :)

coredumperror

Love it, one of my favourite books ever!

There's no sass like Dom sass.
