What the Future Brings

Hey all - I've been quiet but busy for sometime now and I thought I'd take a moment to stop and talk about what I've been up to, and what may lay in the future. First up I've written up the Tesla Rangers for the Savage Worlds RPG and it's being published in a collection of  mini-settings later this year.  So if you've ever been interested in the wonder and heroics of the men and women that reclaimed the Wired West from the robot uprising of 1800's, retold in a goofy saturday morning cartoon style - well, now you can.

Meanwhile - I've been teaching myself 3D modeling. I started out with a very simple program called BlockBench. I was using it to visualize some of my steampunk robot designs and, as it turns out I was good enough at it that I got an invite to be a modeler on "the New TARDIS mod" - a Minecraft mod that adds a customizable Doctor Who style Tardis to Minecraft. On the team, I specialize in being the weird guy that keeps trying to push the mod into new (not blue Police Box) directions.

Then I graduated to a vastly more complex modeling  program Blender. I had been trying to figure that monster out for some time. Mostly unsuccessfully.  However, with the hours under my belt from BlockBench - plus the beta release of the (slightly) more user friendly Blender 2.8 I'm finally making progress.  Like in this 3D 'sketch' of Agatha Heterodyne -- I'm still working on it, but I like it enough to show it.

SO - What's next? Well I've been invited to be the Artist Guest of Honor at two seperate upcoming conventions. The first one will be RinCon in Tucson, Arizona (Oct 4-6). This will be the first time I've actually been back to the area since I scattered my moms ashes at the Grand Canyon - soome 20 years ago. This will also be the first time I've ever served as a "Artist Guest of Honor" anywhere - At least on my own and not as a part of the GG Crew

My second AGOH appearance is closer to home: RadCon in Pasco, WA (Feb 14-16). Where I hope to be more relaxed and less stressed out about being  good guest.

In between those two cons will be the real monster experience - Savage Cruise 2020 (Jan 26 - Feb 2). Eight days on the high seas, gaming with other Savage Worlds fans on a luxury cruise ship that departs from New Orleans and tours the caribbean.

This was very rare opportunity for myself and the whole family to attend something we would never be able to afford on our own - one we couldn't pass up.   Sure It comes with a bunch of  problems I've avoided solving for 40+ years. (Like getting a passport for the first time).  But once we have one - it does open up the possibility of new horizons (and new conventions) that have be well beyond reach for a long time.
