Ahsoka Episode 8 REACTION!! (full watch-a-long)

The fact that we got Deathtroopers aka Undead Troopers (Night Troopers) in live-action is amazing. Loved that novel. I knew the idea for the Deathtroopers horror-ish film got scrapped, but I didn't expect we would get them in Ahsoka.

Graham was my second pick. Good call. My first choice is Henry Cavill because of how similar his portrayal of Geralt is to Ray's Baylan. Not to mention, Henry has a similar physical stature to Ray. More so than Graham.

I hope they don't abandon Baylan. I think Henry Cavill would be the best actor to replace Ray, both physically in stature and just how Ray portrayed the role. The way Henry portrayed Geralt is somewhat similar to Baylan with regard to his stillness and delivery. And we all know he can pull off the action.

I think if they want to recast Baylan's role they should cast Graham McTavish from House Of The Dragon. he has the acting chops and wise older look like Ray had, plus he looks really close to Ray as well, you can see how perfect he'd be from this pic https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E1DegP_VUAAEw33.jpg:large

It was definitely the Mortis God. I believe the daughter not being there is because her Avatar is Ahoska. She gave up her immortality to resurrect Ahoska in the final episode of of the Mortis God trilogy. I think the Father was pointing to a legends character's tomb that was connected to the Mortis Gods her name was Abeloth. She was not shown in the Mortis Gods episodes of CW or nor was she depicted in any of the Mortis God art that appeared in Rebels or Andor. Sorry for the novel I am about to post. Until recently I was unaware of her significance. Apparently she was a human servant of the Mortis Gods. Who started to grow old and realize because she was mortal she would lose the family she loved & served. This drove her to make a desperate decision hoping it would allow her to indefinitely serve them. She decided to drink from their immortal waters (kinda like Holy Grail equivalent). Upon doing so the mortal being was corrupted and spiraled into a malevolent evil darksider. One of the most powerful forces ever known to exist. At some point she was captured, imprisoned then banished for eternity. In legends it wasn't Praidea like they could be setting up. I believe there was always intended on being a season 2 of this show. I am absolutely positive that Baylan was supposed to be apart of it. I dont know if we will get confirmation of this but if you look at the shot of Shin on the Howler looking at the scavenger camp the landscape of that shot seems to be altered in terms of the ground Shin is standing on. I believe when she raised her lightsaber and ignited it it wasn't meant to be used as her announcing her arrival to the scavenger camp. Looking at the terrain it matches up with a shot from the Nati camp. I think she was meant to be signaling her surrender or announcing a truce to Sabine & Ahsoka but they may have edited so they could weigh their options. They likely wanted more time to figure out how to deal with Ray Stevenson's death and how to handle one of the more significant & compelling storylines Star Wars has ever set up. By changing Shin from linking up with Ahoska & Sabine and giving her a more ambiguous ending they now have the option to allow her to carry out the part of the story Baylan was supposed to fill. Right now there are 3-4 options with Baylan. The first one is abandon the plot altogether. I dont see that happening because before they intended on making Palpatine the antagonist of Rise of Skywalker it was reported that theh were going to involve the Mortis Gods. The Dagger in that movie was supposed to be the Mortis Dagger. There was also reports that Matt Smith was cast to play the brother. However Disney axed that plot because the average fan wouldn't have understood what was happening. The Mortis Gods is definitely something Dave Filoni wants to tell a story about so abandoning this plot is unlikely. Second Option recast the role. Now I have suggested elsewhere if the intention was to tell this story with Baylan recast the role dont alter or abandon a character that was universally loved. Which leaves two casting possibilities first you find an actor of a similar stature that physically can just replace Ray. Now this options but the second Baylan at a steep disadvantage because now you are replacing an actor who gave one of the greatest Star Wars acting performances of all time. Any mistake, misstep or decision actor 2 makes that fans dislike and their life will be a living hell. Additionally some might feel recasting is in poor taste. Which leaves re-casting option 2 you hire an actor that is a virtual physical body double for Ray Stevenson and you write into the script an accident the character has. This accident or event will result in Baylan being physically altered whether it is him now having a disfigured face that renders him unrecognizable or something that causes him to become dependent on a respiratory device such as a helmet. This option can account for the differences in performances, change in the charcter and altered voice. Best way for this event to play out would be to have the entity he seeks out to it to him. Sort of a how dare you think you are worthy of my time & belief I would align myself with your kind moment of punishment. The next option is you have an offer camera death for Baylan that ends up with Shin now carrying out his quest. This could be clunky if not handled well enough. You basically have to come up with a plot armor excuse that 90% of the audience buys how Shin is now carrying out the quest Baylan removed her from. My preferred option is make a Tales of the Jedi 90 min story about Baylan make it be a bridge from him as a youngling at the Temple to the last moment we see him in S1 of Ahoska. Show him being told the Story of the Mortis gods as a child & falling in the love with the fairytale. Then flash to an animated Baylan arriving at this being's tomb, hoping to free them, flashing back to what he saw when the Jedi Temple fell and during order 66. Then back to the present him starting a ritual that will awaken this malevolent force he plans on serving. Another flashback show him meeting, training and making Shin prove she is worthy of being his apprentice. Foward to the future the being awakens but is less than receptive to being summoned by this mortal. Again go back in time all the way back to the scene we first see the youngling Baylan in as he listens to the story, panning out reveals there are 2 familiar JEDI Master observing this story being told. Where on master turns to the other and asks why is it the always leave out the mother in the story doesn't it make warning of evil seem like a fairytale from a certain point of view? The second master says something wise like let them have these fairytales now because soon enough they will learn far too many lessons involving evil during their lives.. Saying learning of the great evil of Abeloth is not something youngling need to know if at this point. This confirms who Baylan awakened and sets up how unaware he was that Abeloth would never partner or work with him. Which cuts to a scene where we see Shin finally catching up to Baylan close enough to see what is happening but too far to do anything about it. It is in this moment she sees Bayan obliterated in front of her eyes so this evil force could begin to restore her powers by stealing his essence. We see Shin begin to let out a guttural scream that is so primal it causes a reverberation in the force that Ahoska feels. Ahsoka then turns to Sabine to say we must find & help Shin. I am afraid a great evil has been freed and she will need her help, and we will need hers. This would conclude Baylan's story and when Ahoska S2 opens we see Ahoska and Sabine arrive to find Shin sitting on the ground holding on to her master's lifeless remains. Ahsoka then provides shin with her first lesson in becoming redeemed, by saying we will provide him a Jedi funeral. Shin hesitates exclaiming he was no longer a Jedi. To which Ahoska the White says he is again a Jedi because even in death no one is past the point of redemption he again can be a Jedi. Kind of a moment that signals to Shin it isn't too late to change directions. Now it sets up for part of 2 Ahoska will be training Shin & Sabine as they prepare for the fight of a lifetime. It essentially is the training Obi-Wan & Yoda wanting for Luke that other events prevented from happening. There intention is focus on imprisoning this enity resigned to the belief they are never returning home. However the first surprise twist occurs after defeating and imprisoning Abeloth a gateway to the World Between Worlds opens. The three Jedi enter it and use the gateway to Lothal to get home. However that gateway no longer was on Lothal it was disassembled and put on the Chimera. So when they exit they end up on Dathomir where Thrawn's ship was. They manage to escape with a shuttle back to the New Republic to tell them what is about to happen. The second twist will be paid in how they end up taking down Thrawn the eventual movie. That being that Ahoska wasn't the only one teaching people new tricks because they learned a few things from what Shin that Baylan taught her. This pays off how Thrawn said Ahoska's apprenticeship with Anakin told him everything he needed to know about what strategy she would attack him with making it impossible for him to lose. When in fact that arrogance didn't factor in Ahoska being willing to adapt and learn new strategies from someone like Shin or Baylan.

This was 8 episodes, not 6.

I really enjoyed this finale on the whole. I too felt the meeting between Ezra and Hera was just a little too...muted, I wanted the hug after what we got. I was, I guess, a little disappointed that we in effect got nothing with Balin/Shin and really want more. Now that Disney have said they're reducing Marvel/Star Wars content over all, I wish they would (for the SW universe at least) concentrate on one series per year and give us 12 episodes, 8 just aren't enough. Instead of stretching resources to do more, do less and improve the quality. And then every 3 years, hit us with a BIG movie. I really like the expansion of the SW universe with more new great characters and don't feel we ALWAYS need Luke/Leia etc etc although these cameos can be fun, it keeps the universe small, as if the good guys can only win with them, but Andor proved we don't HAVE to always have our old favourites. But anyway, I assumed pre-watching, that Ahsoka would sacrifice returning to get Sabine and Ezra home, soooo I was half right. I do hope there will be a season 2, will be interesting to see how the Noti end up aiding Ahsoka and Sabine. Will Hera and the republic get their hands on the eye of sion and go back for them? Will we find out the Noti have a way to communicate with the Purrgil? Will Shin end up leading those samurai looking dudes, but end up failing to conquer and come to Ahsoka. And of course, what was Balin's original reason for going to Peridea? On the whole was a great first series, leaving a lot of questions ready for a season 2. I just hope we learn soon, if that is to be.
