Bond realised he had to die, because he couldn't leave the island without killing his family, even if he never touched them himself. Eventually it would get to them through a person he touched, who touched another, who touched another. The only way to keep his family alive was for him to die there. Or to never touch another person again I suppose. So even if he somehow could have made it off the island, he still would have chosen to stay.
