Some background about the Pale Blue Dot, the Image that Sagan was giving this legendary speech to: This Image was taken by the Voyager 1 Space Probe. This is actually the farthest Image taken from Earth that exists, taken from a record distance of about 6 billion kilometers. Sagan convinced NASA to turn Voyager around to take this inspirational image. He first proposed this in 1980 but it took him 9 years to convince NASA since they feared, pointing it at the suns direction could damage the imaging equipment. There is a whole Wikipedia entry dedicated to this Image. Knowing the backstory makes me appreciate his speech even more. Love and Peace to all of you!

Carl Sagan was an Astronomer and extremely famous for these types of videos. He had a show called Cosmos I believe in the 80's? My son who graduated from college a few years ago wrote to me from college after seeing The Pale Blue Dot: I can read, I have food and shelter and I have a great education. I am luckier than 99% of people on this planet Mom. That made me cry. You can see how this video fits in with what you are experiencing watching The Expanse especially as the show takes current (and per Carl Sagan) persistent human frailties over millenia and projects them onto a very realistically possible future. Astronomy is cool!

Folks might also like this if you have not see it. A really nice video with Carl Sagan's narration. Shares some of the same places as the Expanse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH3c1QZzRK4

I was wanting to share a slightly different version of this same poem.

Love Carl Sagan. I'm a huge space nerd. I find studying space far more interesting than what's going on in the world lol. Elon Musk is actually working towards colonizing Mars, so there is that.

I too was waiting, expecting something suddenly to happen at the end. As it is it left me with the idea that no matter how large our world seems to us, on a universal or galactic scale we are just a speck.
