I agree w Steven that accepting Ash for Del was just a weird choice writing-wise. Regardless of the organizational analogues, a Cartel would never value the death of Ash (some random henchmen for some heroin farming red necks, as far as they're concerned) as much as the life of Del, an executive running the US branch of their international business. Then again the whole scene setup doesn't make a lot of sense. Why would the cartel send in their financial advisor to negotiate a vague settlement under threat of death? They could have just raided the house and taken whatever they wanted (including Ash's life) if that's what they were after. This show is fun and I can't get enough, but it doesn't have airtight writing, and a lot of the internal logic falls apart under close scrutiny, unlike with the greats like breaking bad, early GOT, the wire, etc.

2020-09-17 04:27:43 +0000 UTCI think the casino is more important to the cartel than Del was, no Snells no casino. I remember Marty saying the casino could launder all of the cartels money if they pull it of.

Death was the only option, and if you rewatch the scene when marty is telling jacob what they should do, you can see it in jacob’s face, he knows what he has to do. It’s the only thing the cartel will accept, a LT for a LT. An eye for an eye, blood for blood. No money would have been accepted.

2020-09-15 18:41:24 +0000 UTCFor me, the loss of a top player in a billion dollar organization has more impact than a top player in a local mom and pop shop, which is what the Snels operation feels like compared to the cartel. The cartel may have a deep bench but if Del was the smartest and best at what he did, that’s hard to replace.

2020-09-15 17:28:16 +0000 UTCI don't think it was a fair trade either, I think the Snells lost a lot more than the cartel did. Like that lawyer lady said, the cartel has a deep bench, they've got other guys that can easily step in for Del, the Snells don't seem to have someone they can trust as much as Ash, he did everything for them.

2020-09-15 17:15:01 +0000 UTCyeah, we know Del wasn't the boss - my opinion from the video doesn't change - from what we know, it does not feel like a fair trade, regardless of what Ash was.

2020-09-15 17:04:30 +0000 UTCDel wasn't the boss, he was one of the top lieutenants, which is what Ash was to the Snells. It was a fair deal when you think about it.
