I mean, in the last episode they ran a motorboat through a whale like a knife through butter! You can still be interested and invested in the directions characters are taken, without taking them very seriously.

When I first saw the preview featuring Stormfront (which was just the scene were she introduces herself to Homelander & Queen on periscope while they try to shoot a commercial), I thought "huh, that's an odd name, is she really going to be related to neo-nazi forums somehow??" By the time the show started, I had set the thought aside and proceeded to be charmed by her no-nonsense attitude like you did. She told things as they were, and said a few things I agreed with. That stopped the moment where I see her killing civilians, who also all happen to be black. And then it occurs to me that her name may have been on purpose all along, which is confirmed just minutes later with a racist slur. Oof. More clicking happened while writing this comment, as the whole "X tells it like it is" sounds like something I've heard before. So it's interesting that we get to empathize with that. If you were a character in that world, you probably wouldn't have that shocking revelation, since you'll just see people congratulating each other on Vaught News and nothing uncouth. Anyone telling you that Stormfront believes in white supremacy would sound like they're making shit up, and that any "tell" that they see is just a coincidence/innocuous gesture and so on. As for The Deep, I see how he's drifting towards that church of scientology mainly because they're the only ones who are remotely welcoming to him. (These days it would be a different group that would end up welcoming someone in his mindset, but I guess they didn't want to be too hamfisted with their contemporary politics allegories haha) Finally, and this is the more tenuous one, on the previous episode we saw Kenji explain his convictions, and how the Shining Light taught him to hate America and see its destruction as a means to an end, when Shining Light was the group that invaded (?) their village in the first place (at least Kimiko sees it this way) while the US leveled the village using superheroes/bombs. Again, alludes to another radicalized group of recent times. Sooo..... I can't help but think radicalization is going to be a major theme during this season*. Good luck mods, as I'm sure we'll see all sorts of people come out of the woodworks in the comments section. :o * We even have our protagonists on the thin edge of it too, between Butcher who takes things to the extreme, and Hughie pulling the other way.

I thought The Deep was a total irredeemable piece of shit after the first couple episodes, but now, after seeing how bad the rest of the other "heroes" are, he's almost a saint in comparison. Well, no, not really, but you get what I'm saying. At worst, he comes off as a dumb, clueless misogynistic dude bro. From what we've seen he's not a sadist, or a stone cold murderer like Homelander or Stormfront. Or they could make him darker by making him even worse. either way, I'm kind of interested in what they do with his character.
