2022-12-16 03:23:51 +0000 UTCI highly sugest that y'all add the movie Memphis Belle, the HBO show the Pacific, the movie we were solders, and the HBO show Generation Kill to the list to watch all great cinema and shows how war changes depending on where and when you are fighting

2021-06-12 23:56:23 +0000 UTCAfter you watch the last episode, you may want to watch the HBO documentary "We stand alone together" which is where the interviews came from. it is on youtube at the link below. but don't watch until the end because the interviewees are identified. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6j_nop4wh0

2021-06-07 17:16:57 +0000 UTCI love how the episode begins with one drop of blood on Eugene's finger, and ends with his hands caked in blood. Old and new. I do not know if you can be tougher than a combat medic.

2021-06-07 03:04:17 +0000 UTCKudos to you both. Everyone always talks through this episode and misses the conversation when Buck finds out his girlfriend broke up with him. I just somehow knew you would hear it and so glad. Just some advice. I would steer clear of comments from here on out. People tend to spoil some things with this show.

2021-06-07 01:34:44 +0000 UTCWhat really stands out to me whenever I watch this episode is that Eugene (the medic) just cannot catch a break. He isn't really afforded the time to sit and contemplate his circumstances or bs with his buddies like the others do. He's always scrounging for supplies, waiting in the snow for the first casualties to come back from a patrol, or checking up on the various hurts and injuries of his guys. Of course, NO ONE is having a good or relaxing time sitting in icy foxholes on the front line at Bastogne, but Eugene not only has to be constantly 'on' but has to carry the weight of responsibility inherent in trying to care for and save men in a place that only wants them dead. And when you have extremely limited resources and can't escape the constant tension and dread of the frontlines, it's an almost impossibly Herculean task. Just a stunning episode.

2021-06-06 20:02:31 +0000 UTCMy grandfather was a medic who served under General Patton in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was ordered to stay behind in Rome to assist the Italians in cleaning up the water to make it safe to drink (he also spoke Italian - sort of - and talked with the Vatican where he referred to the water as ‘shitty’. Pope crossed himself every time my grandfather said it. He knew some Italian but mostly basic words and slang.” He was in veterinary school when he joined the Army. They deemed him good enough to become a medic. He lived a long life. FYI - the Nazi soldiers were singing “Silent Night’ which has its origins in Austria near Salzburg. ‘Stille nacht, heilige nacht…’ right before the Christmas bombing. Most Europeans celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve. This is one of my favorite episodes as I can relate my grandfather’s experiences to it.

2021-06-06 19:16:03 +0000 UTCFollowing Eugene was just fascinating in the most brutal episode so far. Seeing him get lost, come back, get lost again, then come back again, is so inspiring. It's one of my "favorite" episodes of this series. Thank you again for reacting to this. See you in the next one.
