I’ll just write a personal commEnt. My father was the son of an Army colonel and spent part of his youth living in Germany and France. My father was determined that I would have knowledge of the European front early on and so I was 8 when first I went. I’ve been to numerous concentration camps and they are all brutal. I studied languages and economics at a university in Texas and at 20 went to Salzburg to finish my degree and further my studies. I liked going on adventures from Salzburg so I saw the beautiful mountains and lakes they show you here. I also went to Berchtesgaden (though I’d been there before). Here’s where I have a different interpretation of the line about being a Nazi in Germany…while traveling I went to a hotel for two nights. Literally by chance I met the chef and owner of the hotel who has become like my grandfather. He’s 81 now. His father was forced from running his hotel and Hitler sent nearly all men to the brutal eastern front in the Soviet Union. He was captured by the Soviets and put into a prisoner labor camp in Siberia. He returned when Peter was 5. Prior to that he had never met his father. Peter is still with us and my entire family will be painting Berchtesgaden and parts of the Salzburg area red width celebrations at Christmas. Even now when visiting Germany, Austria or Switzerland people think I’m Austrian because of my accent (though I live in Texas).

Another recommendation, althought slightly different. A classic film, a courtroom drama dealing with the post-war trials of Nazi criminals. "Judgement at Nurumburg"

There is a video on youtube of Malarky describing what actually happened with the German brain surgeon and Sgt. Grant. Surgeon was refusing to operate because he was convinced Grant would die no matter what. A gun was then pointed at the surgeon’s head with a direct threat of death if he did not try to save Grant. The surgeon caved and operated. Grant lived. They then honored the surgeon with a banquet to express their gratitude. The surgeon discreetly asked if he really would have been shot. He received an answer of “yes.” Link to the video here. https://youtu.be/3xnaWS_XDds

I know everyone is recommending to you all sorts of war content right now, but I seriously suggest you take a look at/react to a short, but well known and very professional, 15-minute video called "The Fallen of World War II". It really helps understand the scale of the war. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwKPFT-RioU

Thank you both for reacting to this series! Been one of my main viewings over the years since I watched it premier on HBO. As others have said (continuing to beat the drum, lol); if you enjoy the interviews with the real soldiers at the beginning of the episodes, it would be great to check out "We Stand Alone Together" (even if unable to react to it - it just compliments this series amazingly). Thank you again very much, and happy 4th!

THANK YOU Nikki and Steven! This was perfect timing to re-watch. Many tears. They never fade. The Pacific is close to my heart since it follows Marines, as opposed to soldiers (Army). Maybe this slot next year, if it works out! This hit all the important dates, like you said. Look forward to that with y’all. Happy Independance Day 🇺🇸

the only thing i "dislike" about this episode is when Winters accepted the surrender of the Colonel (who was actually a Major), is he accepted the pistol and if you watch the full documentary find out that the pistol had never been fired and therefor had no blood on it, and it had and will never be fired. I wish they didn't change that. But when it came to the main german army, they weren't Nazis like the SS they were mainly conscripts, or those that felt Germany was wronged in WWI (patriotism) and once you were in, if you tried to leave you would be shot. Though Along with the Pacific I also highly recommend the Movies Memphis Belle, and once you finish the Pacific Hacksaw Ridge

I'm using firefox and have not had any issues viewing this episode.

I've just subscibed, and using Firefox, OneHubjust says "HTML5 player not found". Does anyone else get this, and if so, can you use a different video host? I've been forced to use...*shudder*...Edge, to make it work. (It's working for me now...inconsistently. Sometimes it works 1/2, other times 1/10, wierd.)

As someone who has been hoping you guys would watch this series from the time I first started following you, I’m so glad I got to rewatch this epic series along with you. Very honest, thoughtful, empathetic reactions for every sing episode (per usual). Thanks again so much for watching and reacting! Just a thought on The Pacific: while it’s excellent, the brutality goes up a couple of levels (no spoilers, I promise, it’s just the nature of that theater of the war). Glad you guys are taking a break in between these series if you do end up checking out The Pacific.

This show. I weep through this episode every time. The happiness I feel for those that survived, and get to go home; the comraderie they shared for the rest of their lives; and the reveal at the end, of the interviewed. What an amazing show, that I will continue to watch over & over again. It never gets old, because I know these are real people. I'd like to thank you guys, again, for watching this series for us. It was well worth the wait. Happy 4th!

"Were you a hero in the war?" "No" "But I served in a company of heroes" That line always get me... What an amazing show and I'm so glad y'all got to see it.

If you can, I would suggest watching the hbo show "We Stand Alone Together" . it is the documentary about the making of the show Band of Brothers (not for reaction, but for the interviews it contains). It's posted in it's entirety on youtube with millions of views. It is primarily interviews with the soldiers , and is where most of the interviews in the series originated.
