As Flint is essentially describing himself whilst speaking with Mr. Scott: “For as long as I have known you, you’ve been two wholly seperate men”, Mr. Scott telling him he can no longer be that is directly alluding to the conclusion Flint needs to arrive at, one which he can no longer be two men anymore. To save his people, instead of McGraw letting go of Flint, Flint needs to let go of McGraw and as he says “…come back from the dead”. That coupled with Miranda (his own subconscious really) telling him basically he can’t see the bigger picture yet and what he must do…How is this show written this well!? Hands down one of the greatest speeches in TV history. Not many shows can make you feel for a 2 minute character like you do for the Spanish sailor talking with Vane. Silver & Flint for me is the most complex, layered and deepest relationship between two characters ever put on screen. Their unique bond transcends anything I’ve seen on screen before. And yes Steven, the day I first saw your ‘dude shirt’, I was thinking you’re gonna need a new shirt once you guys watch Black Sails.

He is very compelling. He is my favorite character of all time. A perfect storm of great writing and an amazing actor bringing it to life. The actor who plays Vane (Zach McGowan) has been in a bit of everything. He even appeared in a few episodes of The Walking Dead. It was around the time of Rick's exit.

And yes, I've seen all of them cuz this show is my favorite of all time. Flint's speech was chilling as fuck, another grand display of how he can blend his charisma and compelling argument into not only surviving a situation where odds stacked against him but also shifting those odds to his advantage, and the most amazing thing is that Silver of all people was the one who rescued him from his dark suicidal state of mind, proving what Miranda said at the beginning of the episode: "You are not alone."
