I was in total shock and disbelief watching vane hanging there. I kept waiting and waiting for them to save him. Then it hit me his death was what was needed… so insane and emotional. I love this show

Yep my favourite too

Charles Vane’s death was handled so well. Such a haunting scene watching him hang like that. Loved his speech, how everyone was loud and yelling and then the moment he speaks they all go quiet and listen. His impact on the show is so huge. Setting up for the finale, which imo is probably my favorite episode ever. And honestly probably the best finale I’ve ever seen.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think he was talking about a Vikings character.

Ironically that honesty by Vane at the end about Richard (that for me came from sincerity), hurt Eleanor the most. Self destructive is definitely her calling card. Also love how he threw everything back at the pastor haha

GoT spoilers in the comment: I wonder if Steven was referring to a certain character’s execution in s1 because this gave me the exact same vibes. For the entire scene I was in denial until that moment when he shook his head at Billy. According to the writers, when the pirates helped him end his suffering, that was the start of the rebellion. Back in the day with shallow hangings it was usually family members of the condemned that would help, so the fact that pirates of Nassau immediately came to Vane’s side was an act of mercy but also defiance. This episode is up there as one of the most powerful episodes of TV I’ve watched. Some quick shoutouts to Flint’s terrifyingly enlightening lecture on the darkness within. Mr. Scott deserved more screen time. When I fantasise about Black Sails spinoffs, a show about the Ranger crew with Vane, Jack and Anne or centred on Mr. Scott, the Maroon queen and Madi are always on top of my list. And finally love the unspoken game being played by Eleanor and Max, kind of gives me Varys v Littlefinger vibes.

Amen man.

I cried like a little bitch when I first watched this. Vane went out like such a G.

The early scene between Vane and Eleanor is so powerful. It's probably the most honest they've ever been with each other. The writers always handled character death well and made them really powerful. I was always affected by them even if the character wasn't a favorite. Tho Vane is a favorite and I was heartbroken over him. The old madam, Mrs. Mapleton, really summed Eleanor up when she says she thrives on destroying herself. RIP to Vane who went out like he lived -- on his own terms. RIP to Mr. Scott, too. :(

You just can't help but feel devastated by Vane's death. It also took me a while to come around to his character in the first season, so it's amazing that the show got me to a point where losing him made me so sad I almost stopped watching (glad I didn't though!). For all he's a cutthroat pirate, he really was one of the most honorable and loyal characters on the show. RIP CHARLES VANE

The hanging of Charles Vane is one of the most haunting scenes I've ever seen. The overlaying of the pastors speech while Vane is being brought to the stand, his cold emotionless stare at Eleanore, him walking off the wagon himself, and then the pirates pulling him down to make it go quicker gives me goosebumps and tears me up every time. I remember worrying that the show was going to feel like it was missing something in season 4 without Vane. Let's just say the writers know what they're doing. Can't wait for the finale!
